Maybe I'm a day late and a dollar short, but if this is familiar to anyone else I'd appreciate input. The reference gun is my 2300KT
I just received a new batch of Crosman Factory Cartridges and the lengths vary enough that some will puncture and others will not. I'm not yet positive that it's length only, because I haven't yet compared base shapes. This happened once before and I suspected over time I might have over compressed the CO2 face seal, but a rebuild showed the seal and needle were fine (even though I replaced after going to the trouble of opening everything up). I was pulling my hair out trying to figure how the valve could have drifted rearward but that wasn't it at all. Easy answer to make a spacer to give the cap some more adjustability. Or maybe even a variable adjuster similar to a "power adjuster" ;)

I have found the crosman Co2 carts to be inferior. Their length varies and they corrode for no reason.

Crosman 12g's are a &^^& shoot. Switch to another brand, or try a Pro Top to eliminate the thin face seal and the stem mounted puncture pin.

I go thru around 40 cartridges a month, had problems while back, so started measuring them and also weighing them, they were always @ 12 gram or more, but thr length seems like is on a 30 thousandths tolerance, when they are on the short side OK, but usually only one in 40 will be short enough to give a problem, I measure and weigh every one when I buy a carton, takes bout an hour, and saves frustration, I also drag the tip over a sheet of 400 grit sandpaper while weighing and measuring, sure eliminates frustration, an actually kind of fun and interesting.

Wonder what's going on.
Haven't find any functional difference between the 3 or 5 types I've gotten (they usually ship the big loose lots withoutever they have) and they're working.
Only a couple of Crosmans and QB's...see to pop them and run just as well. The fixed piercing pin versions (like SPA 600's) don't care.
I'll keep an eye out....still running on an order from about 18 months ago(which turned out to be EMG's)....batch before that turned out to be Swiss Arms....so it'sbeen awhile (like 2 1/2-3 years)from any Crosmans other than an occasional left over stray.
They are visually different.....and have different weights(full and empty)...but basically hold 12gr.

Average length is almost the same...within 4/1000ths on average (3.274"vs 3.272")
Neck (lets say below the "seal") is larger on the Crosmans....(like 285" vs .292" for the Crosmans)...which might let the Swiss/EMG's snuggle down a little closer).

MAybe Crosman went to stiffer seals....woudn't know why they'd do that when no one else seemed to.
Mabybe something actually is wrong with the guns using them....all of these 12gr. run find with any of the 12gr. that have shown up.

Does seem like single 12gr. rifles/pistols( the ones that actually run on a sealed-to-the valve 12gr.like the Crosmans) actually run on whatever co2 is inside the vlave body. Just not enough time for the 12gr. to play catch up...inejct co2 into the valve though that little popped hole to do much of anything.
BUT... qa wider popped hole indiactes a streonger striker spring/striker hit to the valve. Really only get one visible shot at it...once the 12gr.popps open,the piercing pin (on a Crosman tupe) will NEVER portude as far under pressure.
Once popped open (even with a tiny hole) the gas pressure is working against the vlve stem/piercing pin.
While you may takeout an empty 12gr. with a great big hole in the 12gr.,that only happens when you shoot it to nearly empty and the piercing pin gets mutiple strikes against it.

Oh well...Fall is here...winter is coming....it's really not the time to start a new co2 project.
