Do any of you guys ever buy from these classifieds,...I've seen it referenced here a few times. How do you know anything about the sellers ? Or is is total crapshoot ?

Just about every month.
I sold two items on this site this month, already.

I was considering a purchase,..just hate to send a guy a money order that I don't know at all. I don't know any of you guys either but I'm pretty comfortable if several people on a forum are saying good things about a seller/individual.
-
I bought several things there. I watch the adds pretty carefully and after a while you can spot the obvious scams. No matter where you shop you have expect some drama.

I guess there's always that one First Sale to break through. There's always a first time for everybody, right?
So if it's on This forum for example (GTA), then I figure I would check the seller's post count, maybe read a few of them, see how long it's been since they first joined up, etc., and go from there.
Especially if he or she is selling something I really want.
And if I was that first-time seller, I would wait until I built up some decent cred (in fact you're not even allowed to sell until after after a month or so here, right?) and maybe make the first item a heck of a deal just to help break through the "unknown seller" factor. But it wouldn't be too expensive an item that first time, heh heh...
-
dont send money orders to anyone on AA classifieds.. Paypal only , and make sure its for goods and services.. Ive bought and sold a lot of stuff over there. There are constant scammers, but their not all easy to spot
-
the scammers are getting better, like saving all the info from and old ad, then switching the email and reposting it.. So it sounds like someone who knows airguns is posting..

Yeah I agree,..I just reread the ad. It does state money order only. Per the advice posted on that site,..if an ad says that,.."Take a walk". So per the site owners advice I won't take the chance and steer clear,...thanks for all feedback. -Aaron

I've made good purchases on that site. There are reputable reputable sellers there, but there are definitely scammers there, too. The last two ads I've followed up on were scams and I did not send the check. If the seller won't accept PayPal goods and services, I am very skeptical. The first thing I do is search the wording and pictures of the ads to see of they were lifted from the web. If I'm still interested, I'll try to have a phone conversation with the seller to feel them out, or ask them to send different pics, etc.
Good luck!

I was burned one time.
Some POS in a trailer park in Amarillo, TX..

I've done my share of internet purchasing on forums of various kinds over the years,..and a little selling. Overall good experiences for sure,..still do it on occassion..but burned once too. Not a significant amount of money so that was good but it's never a good feeling. I'll rate a thief just below a coyote on what I think about'em.

If you're asking, you must know something about the history of the website, and buying guns. New to the sport, I would stay clear of that site for guns.

Nope,..didn't know anything about the site...thus my inquiry here. Not new to air rifles,.....just figured somebody here may know. This is the only place I really come to on the net for first hand air gun info.

And I am one of the buyers. Just by emailing back & forth you can usually tell if a guy is legit. You can always give your phone number and ask them to call you. If you dont feel confident after talking to them dont do the sale/purchase.
We have all talked to liars. They tend to avoid direct questions and ramble on about BS stuff. Paypal is the best way to go. Their solutions are lengthy and frustrating at times but are better than the USPS solutions.
I hesitate to say that I have never been burned by a seller on GTA. AA, AGW(old yellow) & CAPOF. So KNOCK ON WOOD!

As previously said, don't send checks, money orders, or PayPal Friends & Family. Pay the extra 3.5% for PayPal Goods & Services, so that you CYA. Otherwise, you're on your own if the deal goes sideways.
-
I always ask for a picture with a piece of paper with ssbn617 on it to make sure it wasn’t lifted from another site.
I only had trouble with one seller who was upset with the request. Turns out he was older and needed his grandkid to come over and take the picture for him. His family since got him a phone.

I had emailed the seller yesterday before posting here......the "failure to send" alert showed up this morning in my inbox ;) Not legit.
Not sure if I'm breaking any rules here but here is the ad and seller,...posting just for a headsup for anyone else down the road.

LOL,...go figure. I'm pretty sure I don't need anything from them.
-
Are you sure the guy didn’t place the “remove” into the email address to be removed, so as to avoid email spam bots? In other words his email should end with @hotmail.com?

Honestly I don't know. I guess I'm not that techy.....but it wouldn't matter now. The "Money order only" thing is enough to spook me.
-
I only deal with money orders.
Received one yesterday.
A buyer in Texas received one of mine yesterday.
I know there are shooters who are not mobile and cannot get to the bank or PO.
But it is the way I do business.
I was burned once.
As I said.
That is what was so good about the Yellow Forum.
We kept track of the worthless scum..

I wouldn't have any trouble sending you one,..a post count of almost 5000 and a selling/buying history with other guys on this forum or at least I'd gamble several members here would vouch for you if no history is posted. I do it on occassion,....just wasn't gonna do it in that case.
-
I've gotten several airguns from that site, no problems. Always from one of the sellers with lots of history, that I know, or that I talk to over the phone. I've also seen some pretty obvious scams.
-
failure to send isnt necessarily indicative of a bogus or fraudulent email address
Can mean your server cannot talk to their server (router/switch issue, DNS tables not current, white/grey/blacklist issues from them to you or vice versa), your email provider cant resolve the address it's going to, volume of mail currently being processed by your provider or theirs (see that a lot here on campus) and a ton of other reasons NOT related to criminal activity.
I see it a lot from the volume of mail servers on here campus try to process......

Kudos though, for catching that. most folks never even notice, then wonder why they dont get a response

Do the leg work and you should be fine.
There is one seller on there that I have bought several vintage guns from and he only accepts MO.
Never gamble with what you can't afford to lose.
