Title: Paying to have a few parts made
Post by: Privateer on September 20, 2020, 06:11:17 PM
I have several Guns I want custom, one of a kind, stocks printed out.
Contact me by PM for details.
I can design them in 3D Max.
Only requirement is that you never make any others!
They MUST be a one of a kind!

If no one else wants to I will. I would like to see others offer their service over me as I want others to take their 3d print hobby further.

Not at this time.
I want something that works for me and me alone before I show it.
It may take several builds to get it the way I want and I will pay for that!
I also want to have something made that no one else has.

I like (love) the whole concept. If you have the $ and are willing to see it to an end,.... then I am very curious and looking forwards to seeing what transpires. Will be following. I love innovation and unique items.

I'm in need of a part as well, a spacer to insert under the rear sight of my Sig Sauer M17.  I have used Inkscape and could design something in that format if the program is compatible.

Any interest?

How do people come up with a basis for charging for 3-D prints like this? The stock for example sounds like it would be extremely expensive because of the huge amount of time involved.  Small parts should be cheap.  There's some kind of standard for this?

That is a good question.
Here is what I would do.
If the files are fine and no edit needed?
Charge for the materials and a reasonable run time.
Now since one does have to watch the print? I'd say that is time out of their day and should be payed.

If the files need work to print properly?
Then an hourly rate for that.

I have 2 options myself.
I could buy my own 3D printer and do things myself or pay others.
My Job allows little time to take the first option.
My Job pays well enough to pay others so in a way?
I'm helping the economy.

I charge for material print time and then any post work. It is a  hobby so I do not charge so much that it scares people away. You can check a print farm but they are not realistic imo for a hobbiest to compete with.
