Title: Removing a Williams peep sight from a 392
Post by: Don.M on September 17, 2020, 10:01:04 AM
I wasn't sure where to post this, so I put it here.

My 392 came with a Williams peep on it and I want to put a Baker Airgun scope mount on the rifle, which means removing the peep. I have already removed the 'top half' of the sight in order to install a scope by loosening the vertical adjustment screw and sliding the peep assembly up and off.

As you can see in the pic, there are two screws to the left of the vertical adjustment screw that's on the far right. Is all I have to do to remove the sight is take out those two screws? I don't have a screwdriver that fits them, so I don't want to mess things up using one that doesn't fit to try removing them, but is that all I have to do?

Yes just remove the screws - the holes are left open.

Don't lose those parts and screws.... those things are highly desired and worth around $40.

I planned on putting everything in a ziplock bag and keeping them in my gunsafe to keep from losing them. ;)

I have two or three of them just laying around, LOL put the old stock sight back on them at a distance I can focus better. (Just a personal preference), I had to enlarge the peep hole on one to see if it gave a better sight picture and that worked too, they come off and go back on easy it you're going to use them.

I do much better with the peep sights than open sights. It's just a product of my age...  :o
I do, however, have to drill the hole out larger to remove the 'spiderwebs'.

Well, I found the correct sized screwdriver. It's off and all the little pieces/parts are in a zip-lock baggie in the safe. Thanks all for the help & encouragement.

Tell you what, those suckers were on TIGHT ... a lot tighter than I would have put them on, but they came off no problem.

Now I just have to come up with the loot for the Baker mount and study how to put it on since there is going to be a bit of disassembly of the rifle required. But I DID find Baker's video on YouTube showing how to do it.

Airgun Evolution on Youtube did a Baker mount install on a 392. FWIW

Get yourself a set of gunsmithing screwdrivers.  A cheap set like mine doesn't cost much.
