1) Shoot the Artemis 700 with the breech block open at 4am in a residential area.
2) Adjust for windage with the elevation knob.
I gotta laugh about it and I know I am not the only one.

Of course I've never made a mistake... :D ... but you're not the first to fess up on the forums.
I'm assuming you did your due diligence before posting a new thread by searching first to see if there are any existing ones like you intended to offer.... and found nothing. That's because the default GTA search is, in a word, lousy.
Instead, search for what you want to know using another method that does work well... like this one:
Go to Google, type site:gatewaytoairguns.org in the address bar, insert a space, then type your question.
Here is an example:
https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&ei=nf1hX6_8HJCgtQWE05SgAw&q=site%3Agatewaytoairguns.org+dumb+things+i%27ve+done+with+an+airgun&oq=site%3Agatewaytoairguns.org+dumb+things+i%27ve+done+with+an+airgun&gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQA1D0Q1jrpAFgtKkBaABwAXgAgAG8AogBqhuSAQgzMi4yLjEuMZgBAKABAaoBB2d3cy13aXrAAQE&sclient=psy-ab&ved=0ahUKEwjvvvDAz-3rAhUQUK0KHYQpBTQQ4dUDCAw&uact=5 (https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&ei=nf1hX6_8HJCgtQWE05SgAw&q=site%3Agatewaytoairguns.org+dumb+things+i%27ve+done+with+an+airgun&oq=site%3Agatewaytoairguns.org+dumb+things+i%27ve+done+with+an+airgun&gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQA1D0Q1jrpAFgtKkBaABwAXgAgAG8AogBqhuSAQgzMi4yLjEuMZgBAKABAaoBB2d3cy13aXrAAQE&sclient=psy-ab&ved=0ahUKEwjvvvDAz-3rAhUQUK0KHYQpBTQQ4dUDCAw&uact=5)

Correct, zero effort to search before posting. I gave up on the search function here and AirGunNation. AGN has a bajilion gates, you need to select which ones to search, AND they are not even listed alphabetically. I'm a lazy end user and I like it that way.
You are correct, again Sir, a Google search yields more pin point results as Google knows a little bit about databases and indexing ;) ;) ;)

You've never loaded the wrong size pellet in the breech or magazine? How about getting ready to squeeze the trigger for that "perfect" shot and realize the safety is still on? More than a few people have shot their chronograph or a window sill when shooting out of a window.

All of the above ;D ;D I even shot swmbo in the posterior once :-\
-
Johnny, you’re definitely not the only one that has and will be doing what the heck things pertaining to airgunning! We humans must be a source of comedy for some higher level beings...LOL!
-
If we start including dumb purchases, I'm doomed! :D

I shot my cheap chicom crono 6 times killing it on the 6th shot. I put a .177 pellet in my.22 cal Aspen when cronoing and couldn't figure out why my fps was all low. LoL. But the dumbest thing was giving my M34 anaversery model to my son who left it behind the seat of a moving truck rental. I head shot a GS at 90 paces with that rifle.
-
I know you like a quiet pp700. So I'm guessing you nearly jumped out of your skin with the 4AM open breech shot. I did that the other day (not at 4 am). Totally surprised me and took me a minute to figure out what the *(&^ was going on. Right near my face the way I was sighting with the scope.
-
Just the other day....I had re-crowned a barrel on my 2240 with a disco barrel on it. Grabbed a box of pellets and went out side to test it. Was shooting like a shot gun. Checked my pellets and had .177 pellets. ( Sound of hand slapping forehead DOH!).

Yes Sir, and more, I just wanted to get the conversation started.
shot a hole in french pane windows of backdoor..... UNBELIEVABLE
.177 in .22...... "where'd the pellet go"
crosshairs on a rat's forehead....... safety on
-
I hate it when I pull the trigger with the bolt open, you hear the loud bang & blow out the barrel o-ring! It doesn't happen often but I carry spare barrel o-rings in my shooting bag.
safety on when pulling the trigger, shot the crony (several times) it still worked too afterward, turning turrets the wrong way when sighting in just to name a few of my mishaps.

Ditto. Open breech fire, several times with the Artemis700, is VERY alarming. Now I wince when I shoot the thing.
-
Cracking open the barrel on a break barrel that is already loaded is high on the list of my FUBARs.
I had the trigger set too light with a roller bearing mod once. I cracked the loaded barrel open once and it slammed shut and sent the pellet through the tin roof over our rear deck. My once 'one hole wonder' gun is now something less... :o

How should I put this..... ?
An anatomically gifted female should be mindful of how close to the vest she holds a Beeman P-17 while closing the breech.. :-\
I am so glad that Betty Lou is not a member of this forum.. :o

Owee. I'm guessing Betty has chosen a different weapon.

Nope.... just different procedures.
I, on the other hand, learned a few new words.

I have A 177 pellet showing in my new kitchen floor. And I did find the pellet that came up missing, it was behind the picture in my bedroom. I found the 2 holes in the bedroom ceiling, they were easy.
-
Shot my wifes truck tire on a ground bounce.
Loaded .22 in a .25 and wondered why all the pellets ended up in the moderator.
Bulldog went off during a trigger malfunction and buried a 125 grain hand cast bullet in a wall stud. (got lucky on that one and the wife was not home too).

But you get to look at it everyday. I haven't fixed the french pane window yet but I did paint home's exterior and most of the interior.
-
My favorite is to turn the turret the wrong way, and then after realizing my mistake to compound the mistake by correcting in the wrong direction and then missing far enough not to be able to see the shot hit in the scope. People watching me shoot have loved that mistake, especially if they watched me do it, and then watch the shot fly. ???
-
Ok, I'll bare my sole....
During certain times of the year I have allergy issues and turn to nasal sprays for some relief.
I swear by MAC1's Secret Sauce and buy it in the large shampoo bottles. If you take the tube out of the nasal spray bottles they are great for dispensing single drops where needed.
Anyone see where this is going yet?
Yep, you guessed it.... nasal spray does not make good airgun lube !
What? oh, you thought I sprayed SS up my nose? What? You think I'm stupid? :o ??? :-\

I’ve told this story a few times here but it’s always good for a laugh(now). I had a Hatsan air tube and valve assembly and needed to degas it but didn’t have the factory cap that dies the job so I held the tube in my hands and popped the valve stem on the ground gently to blow off some pressure. During this exorcise I dropped the tube out of my hands it fell to the ground and then hit the valve stem with excessive force causing the whole tube to shoot strait up into the fun bag lifting me off my feet. I lay on the ground in pain and my nephew came in to see what all the racket was about and he sees me on the ground in the fetal position he asks if I’m ok. I waved him away and slowly returned to the living

Those instances are all funny except for OldPro. That launched tube really hurt, glad you made it!

oldpro's post is justification enough for your thread, Johnny. It's a good reminder not to do that... I'm not sure I wouldn't have tried a similar thing before reading this.
In clarification, no disrespect was meant by my first post... I was remiss in not adding the last line which I forgot, that there's a lot of additional posts worth reading in the link I made. Admitted to or not, I doubt any of us are free of mistakes and lapses in judgement.
Yesterday, for example, I made three in a row, a trifecta of ignorance... none funny. How I've survived myself this long is a mystery.
-
How I've survived myself this long is a mystery.
That's my situation as well. It's a miracle for me.
Words in new threads don't cost much so I don't care about starting a new one, it's done all of the time. Images in threads are not cheap so I don't bombard GTA with images.

I warped a few rims of casings while reloading, so I pulled the bullet and kept the gunpowder. What to do with the damaged casings...hmm, squeeze one in a vise and hammer the primer to see what happens? Nah, might be dangerous...so I shot at the primer (Casing hung on a nail) with an air rifle. Took a few shots but finally hit it...the primer exploded and flew back and hit the wrist of the hand holding the front stock. That primer flew back a good 10 yards!!! The rest of the shells I hung at an angle and shot at the primers...and put 2 cardboards in front to catch said primers. Still got a star mark on the wrist after over 8 years ha ha....lucky I decided not to smack the primer with a hammer.

Had a pigeon land not three yards away from me at a permission.
It landed on a wooden window shutter.
I assumed I needed to aim high, but totally underestimated HOW MUCH higher — buck fever... 🙄
Well, shooting upwards I got both — the pigeon and the window shutter.
(Can I count that as a double kill? 🤔)
