So I have this older Airforce Condor but don't have an adapter for charging the tank.
I am using a Chinese hand pump.
Should I get an adapter with a male quick disconnect or one that screws right on the pump?
I believe that it is a 1/4 BSPP thread.
What advantage to either one?
BTW: a couple months ago I owned zero PCP's and now I have three.
-
Personally, I wouldn't want some big tank hanging off a pump while I was using it. It would also put a lot of strain on those little threads.
-
I'm a bit confused, the Air Force guns come with a male quick disconnect fill, and they work with most of the female connectors that come with most air compressors/pumps :-\ ???
-
I got this one used and the adapter is MIA
-
The adaptor should be less than $10.
Look on Amazon or Ebay.
-
PA has them for $24. The only ones cheaper on Ebay ship from China, with long lead times.
I will probably buy from PA

China PCP stuff can be bad news (so I have read). Subpar materials and workmanship. Even false claims as to what it can actually handle PSI wise.

As an avid AF shooter and multiple AF platform owner my take is get the quick disconnect. Mine is steel and very heavy duty. Even though most of my bottles are now spin lock I still use it to drain bottles when needed by placing a small aluminum sleeve on top of the tophat and screwing on the adapter that then depresses the top hat via the sleeve and drains the bottle.
-
Good to know.
Also, do you remove the top hat from the tank while you are charging it?
-
I have never removed the top hat to fill it. I don't even have to remove the tank from the frame.
The Foster quick disconnect on the rifle tank is male. You will need a female on your hose.
The hose may have NPT threads, national pipe threads, or BSP British standard threads, or some other metric thread.
I used this one:

This hose has a female on one end and a male on the other end. I don't know what thread is used on this hose.

Also note that the foster can be bought with male threads, or female threads.
This is a male quick connect with a male thread.

You need to post more information about your setup to help any more than general information.

This is the Airforce tank that I have.
And I need an adapter to go between the tank and the hose from my HP pump.
-
this is the fill cap you need. you have the old style tank. the top hat has grub screws holding it on.

Yep, that's it!
So do I need to remove the top hat and stem first? - I can pull them out with my fingers.
-
as far as i know. you don't need to do anything but screw the adapter onto the top of the tank. then plug in your air source. then fill to no more than 3000psi, usually less than that. The new tanks actually have the male foster fitting already installed as well as a gauge.
I'm new to the airforce platform. Just custom ordered my first Condor with spinlock tank and top hat valve kit. Got a killer deal on it.
here is a link to the manual for the airforce and how to fill.

You do not need to remove anything, just screw the adaptor on and fill.
