I used the standard hammer spring but used a Crosman Challenger end cap with a power adjuster to easily change the power. No modification necessary as it bolts right up. Hope this helps.

Depends on what your doing with it, is it all stock? Are you modding other things as well?
I have the 45 spring from magnum air in mine usually, but I fill to 3k

I am building a Discovery style gun with a Don Cothran air tube and a standard Discovery valve . The transfer port is .125

Are you after shot count or fpe? What are you planning on filling to?

I am looking for consistency and how ever many shots I can get from a 2260 length tube and I would like 20-24 foe

Personally with that goal in mind, I would start with the stock spring and see where that got me. I was in that range with everything stock

On my Maximus I ended up with a .038 spring with a Mellon power adjuster. I tried the stock spring, Challenger spring, Euro spring and a .045 spring. The .038 gave me a bigger range of adjustment and easier cocking. I don’t remember the exact TP size but it’s smaller than stock. I get 11-12 fpe with JSP 8.4 gr for 30-35 shots.

Dan: 3K rated tube....with good valve retaining screws, think you'll be good with the Disco valve.
Not a gaint fan of kob on the back adjusters, probvably becasue I tend to ignor them once I've found the "right" spot...but they do make finding that right spot easier.
HArd to predict how many 23 foot pound shots you will get....are ways of modding for a few more.,,,but I'djust start with the issue vavle and see how that turns out.

I also am not a fan of knob on back of gun I really want to just use the Discovery rear plug because I still like to be able to de-gas when I want to . I guess I will try the stock spring with stock valve and stock Disco rear plug I do like simplicity .

Could just use a home brew spring guide and a long headless set screw...already has a threaded hole in the back of the end cap.
Limited adjustment.if the spring length/tension is close to right, have more than enough ejustment...and no "knob".

In my case, with a .22,was looking for LESS power and more shot count with a .22 Disco....so I shorented the issure spring to make up fore the "head" of the spring guide.
Wanted 20 foot pounds...accepted 19.5 foot pounds, but +40 shots once I got the other things adjusted (but no anti-bounce device).

IMO Dan, that is a very good decision
Discos are a delight to shoot, accurate, and reliable.
Get to know the gun as it was designed for a thousand rounds or so, & then consider whether any mods would be to your liking
Have fun with it.

That’s perfect .

I would love to get it shooting like Ribbonstone

Did shorten thr issue spring aby about 1 1/2 coils and make a "dead end"....just enough distance to take up the "head" of the spring guide.
Did drill a hole/detent in the spring guide to take the rebated end of the adjusting screw...so it telescopes in a little bit.
But that's about "it" for the Disco....been that way for over a decade (more like 12-14 years).
