Title: Condor: two .22 barrels (24" and 12"), or a 24" 0.25 and a 12" .22?
Post by: simko on September 02, 2020, 11:38:54 PM
I plan on ordering a condor tomorrow, but not sure if i should order the rifle in, .25 or .22
I plan on ordering a shoprter 12" barrel so i have the option of having a carbine length rifle. BUt the question is, should i have two barrels in the same caliber? or should I buy the rifle in .25, having a full length .25 cal, and the short .22
the price difference between the two is ~$100, so not a big difference.

From a Novice's stand point and understanding level, if I were buying a Condor, with multi-barrels, which I have thought about, I would want all of my ammo to be the same size.
Too simplistic of an answer reflects my level of understanding in the use of an Air Rifle.

I shoot Varmints, it is more of an area clean up than anything else and have had been lucky at reducing the number of animals that track through the yard.   Except for a large Female Mountain Lion, and Coyotes, which I don't even attempt to shoot with my .22 Bone Collector.
So some and me keeping things simple is the way to go... and I like the .22 caliber size, speed, and they have the hit I need.
When and if I buy a PCP, I will consider the Condor, in .22 size.

The new Condor with Ring-loc system can make 100 FPE in 25 caliber.  It's easy to tune down to a lower power.
The older condor will do almost as good with a Talon Tunes top hat.
The 25 has a stronger valve than the 17 and 22 have, the last time that I checked.
If you think that you may want to try a 25, then check to see if the valve is the same. If they are different.  It's easier to tune it down than to power it up.

That a good point !

Why does Air Force use a different valve in the .25 vs .22 ?

I'm thinking .22, is it worth the trouble to get a .25 and an extra replacement barrel in .22 ?
That way I would get my .22 and a better system !

You should verify that the 22 and 25 are different,  I think that they were different when Iboughtmine,  I don't know if that's still true.
The ring-loc top hat makes it very tunable, so they could be the same now.

I was a little foggy on the valve, so I checked, mine says 22/25. It's the 17 that is different.

Thanks for checking.
I will look further when I get ready to buy.

Thanks for the input everyone, I ordered the .25 cal rifle. I spoke ot the dealer and he was not sure if the extra top hats (or inserts) came with the new rifles, but Im hoping it is a ring loc valve and if needed i will purchase the inserts separately.

I am actually trying to run the rifle at as low power as possible, I will be looking for a "balanced" tune with emphasis on low air use, I dont need crazy high power.

For lowest possible power with the Airforce Condor get the CO2 Adapter.
