Title: product misrepresentation and rudeness
Post by: bryan123 on September 01, 2020, 01:53:28 PM
This is an account of my interaction with a well known vendor.  I won't mention their name but from what I've learned, it will be pretty obvious.  Or send me a PM and I'll tell you.  The mods said I could tell my story as long as I stuck to the facts.

Earlier this year I decided to expand from just rifles into pistols.  I was thinking about getting a P17 when a friend told me that a vendor was selling an "as new in box 100%" pre-owned Daisy 717 from the collection of DT Fletcher for $200, so I ordered it.  When the pistol arrived, we found that the rear sight assembly was defective and nonfunctional (I guess Fletcher saw it as a collector's item and didn't shoot it).

I sent an email to the vendor followed up with a phone call to give them an opportunity to make things right, since the pistol was misrepresented as "as new in box 100%".  The first person I talked to was rude as all get-out, and told me that pre owned guns are not under warranty and that I would have to either send it to Daisy for repair or to a local gunsmith.  I then asked to talk to a supervisor.  This guy was nicer and more professional and said that if I sent the pistol back my account would be credited for the amount of the sale (I later found out he had another buyer lined up).

Over the next few hours I learned that I could buy a replacement rear sight from JG Airguns (I wound up buying 2...2 is one and 1 is none lol) and that I could buy an adapter from BHphotovideo dot com that would allow me to use the pistol with a red dot.  So I kept the pistol and I am enjoying it. I sent an email to the vendor telling them that I would be keeping it.  In fact, I came in second place in the GTA 10m pistol match #10, with a score of 89/100.

A few weeks later I got a phone call from the second nicer guy I spoke to asking why I did not send the pistol back; he never took it down from the website (still listed as "as new in box 100%") and had another buyer who wanted the pistol.  I told him to check his emails so he would see that I informed them I would be keeping the pistol.

I'll be avoiding this vendor in the future.  Product misrepresentation is bad enough, but the rudeness of the first person to whom I spoke clinches it for me.

No defense for misrepresentation,... but it would be real tuff to know 100% about every item on an expert level with something like an estate sale.

Rudeness to the customer is not acceptable. Good or bad customer reviews are only a few key/mouse clicks away.

checking their inventory, its obvious and apparent. but to be speculative...there are two types of people generally.
1. the type that always state the obvious (preowned-is as is) and stands by the rules set out
2. the type that pleases and takes care of the problem.

type 2 is obviously in management because they can do it. type 1...heck no. so as long as type one knows his wrong doing. i would focus on type 2 and let not anything bother, if you had let type 2 take care of ya. it would have been a positive but sour.

glad everything is working out for ya!
