Title: The Avenger Rage
Post by: Yarddog on September 01, 2020, 12:42:04 AM
I've only been into air guns a couple of years,  but the furor over the new Avenger is, to me, nothing short of phenomenal. And so far, it would seem that the product is up to the hype. Enough so that I have one on order, although I'm a diehard springer fan boy.

For y'all old timer airgun shooters a with a few service stripes on your sleeves ever seen anything like this? For instance,  when the Marauder or Discovery was released, was there the same level of interest?  Were people buying them like they are the Avenger?

How does the Gauntlet's debut compare to the Avenger's?

I really like my Avenger .25 , and I did buy the .25 mrod back when it first came out with the GM barrel , and that gun is a shooter !  ;D ...

The Avenger features are what you would expect in a $1000  plus range  4300 psi tube / adjustable reg / smooth side lever /good trigger with the pull weight adjusted lower plus its curved to match the finger / 6 lbs very light shoulders perfect for my body / pic rail / foster fitting... no ! fill probe ! / dual gauges fill tube +reg / very VERY accurate / ..

NO other gun comes anywhere close to it at $300    ;D ;D ;D ;D

I need to call randy up and pre order a Avenger .22  I would be a fool not 2 ...

Oh ,and another thing - tighten up all the hex screws - pic rail -barrel band - tighten the shroud up ...all of these were loose on my gun when i got it new ... ;)

I think the Gauntlet created as much stir ( i did buy one ) but nothing compares to the features and performace of the Avenger for the price.
I need to figure out how to upload some pics of my 50 yard groups with it.

I really do like the avenger a lot !!! I pretty much ignored all the hype about them prior to buying mine, I waited until I was able to buy one from RL Airguns without all the waiting.  By this time all of the Avengers from PA/AGD had been sold already due to all the pre orders.  They definitely do make a great hunter for sure.  I did rob the scope from it when I got my Benjamin Cayden but it will getting the scope back when the scope rings I ordered for a BSA scope come.
Here's some shots at 35 yards out in the woods.

Hype is something I consider to be marketing related. I didn't bite on that. What convinced me was the real world testaments from trusted members such as Wayne.
I do not, and will not, do pre-orders. If it weren't for R&L having what I wanted in stock, I would not be a happy .25 owner right now.
As for the Gauntlet, to be honest, I don't own one. I'm not a bottled gun kinda guy. However, if I were I'm not sure it would be this one.
If I remember correctly, this wasn't a great 'out of the box' experience. Just have a look at Hajimoto's video, he sure does alot of things to make the gun preform as it should.
Only thing I've seen upgraded or tinkered with on the Avenger is those few who wanted the gun a little quieter and added baffles. I don't have an issue with the report of mine. However, to be fair, it remains to be seen how long the gun will run well before it needs attention.
But as of now, if this is the platform you are looking for then I would highly recommend investing $300 in this one. I would also recommend purchasing from R&L.

I would say there was a marketing blitz for the Avenger.  Almost every social media influencer did a review and especially ones that typically promote $1000 guns.  That doesn't happen by chance.  Contrast that to the ATI Liberty, the pre-curser to the Avenger, with many of the same features, at the same price point.  Available almost 2 years ago.  Very few established reviewers and no blitz.

owner-driven hype on the PP700.  No media campaign or advertising blitz there.  I don't care how awesomesauce the Avenger is when reviewed by anybody using social media.  Whereas the user/owner reviews here on GTA for the PP700 triggered a lot of buying.  And even the much vaunted Avenger falls short of the PP700 since the PP700 cost $100 less.  Avenger >may< be best at the $300 range, but my PP700 cost only $200-ish; it is still just about untouchable at that cost, with the exception of the PP750.

the Gauntlet got a lot of love, but if it needs tuning out of the box (or repairs, or gentle handling, etc) to be properly functional, it is a cat-poo in metal-and-plastic form.

When I think about unwarranted hype, one gun comes to mind...
The Evanix Air Speed.
