Title: My New Akela
Post by: B.Guns. on August 28, 2020, 06:21:38 PM
Just received my new Akela from Crosman.
I've shot a couple hundred rounds through it and seems to be a good shooter. I mainly shoot 10 yards indoors since it's raining and windy and the groups were pretty much one hole. I shot a few 25yard groups and they were around 1/2". But it was raining and windy so I'm guessing they'll be a bit tighter when the weather gets better.

It's very quite. I was shooting mine indoors yesterday. You mostly hear the hammer.

Awesome Charlie. Glad to help.
Here's my last 3 groups outside as it's raining and 15-20 mph winds with bigger gusts. But it's like that here all the time. These are groups of 12 at 25 yards . Most of the flyers were my fault.

Bryan, just curious at what setting you are shooting to control report volume, especially indoors?

I have it set between full power and half power. It’s really quite even at full power. At low power it feels silent.

Bryan, good to know, thx.

I was planning to see, on one fill, how many 14.3's will go through the barrel at the Lowest power setting for now. Gotta break in my neighbors to this PCP thing slowly...

WOW !  i really Like that stock , I wish it had the side lever like fx/hatsan by the trigger in .30... I have been waiting for the FX wild cat .30 sniper to get in with 700mm barrel , now I wished it had a stock like your akela came with ...  ;D ;D  ;)

Bryan, thanks for the chrono shot strings, very informative. On half power my Akela pushes out JSB 18.13s at ~720 fps avg., plenty enough for small game (if there ever was any where I live!)...and BTW, your projectile weight went down from 14.3 to 14.0 starting at the third string, what pellet ammo did you change to at that point? Just curious.

...and also as far as perceived sound goes, with a Sumo attached to the front end the volume sounded exactly the same at 1/2 power as at lowest power (where 14.3 gr Crosman Premiers were chrono'ing in the low 500s)...

Thats really good with the JSBs. All the strings were done with Crosman HPs. My app truncated the .30 on a few strings.

I don'tfeel in need a moderator as its really quiet with just the shroud. But I don't have any neighbors. I didn't do a low chrono yet but I was shooting 10 yards at low yesterday and it was very accurate and got like 72 decent shots.

It seemed like my higher power strings were dropping off faster than other peoples strings. I like my half power string. I'm new to chronos so I could just be over reacting. I was hoping to hear from some people that have more experience. I really like this gun, I'm just want to make sure I have a good one. I really appreciate your comments. It helps. Thanks, Bryan

After backing out my hammer spring adjuster all the way. Which was about 1/2 turn the best strings I got so far is in the half power mode. Heres 5 strings for 5 mags that I shot from 3000-1800 Let me know if these are ok or close to what you're getting. All shots were quite accurate at 25 yards.

It seems my Akela has developed a leak. The last 2 mornings its been between 2-300 psi lower than where I filled it to when I finished shooting.

I'm going to try a little soapy water around the gauge and foster fitting today. But otherwise I guess I'll be sending in for warranty work. This might explain why my shot strings were not as consistent as other owners strings

Bummer to hear this Bryan. Let us know how it turns out, and thank goodness for Crosman’s five year warranty!

I'm not too worried about it. I've been messaging with a person from Crosman and I'm sure they'll take of it. It's a really slow leak. I tried to find it today but I couldn't. It shoots well. Though the last 2 nights its lost between 200-300 psi in about 16 hours each time. That might be why my strings are not as consistent as other peoples. I'm not sure. But it does sound like Crosman will help me with both issues.

That's great they're going to get it resolved, would be nice if they made it expedient by sending a new gun rather than taking the time to repair this one ??? This way no matter they'll probably test what they send you prior to shipment.

Hey Wayne, and if Bryan likes the Akela wood stock he has now, he could ask if he can just send in the action...haw! ;D

If I was him and didn't want to give up the stock I'd call Crosman on the phone to see what can be done, they're very good about customer service.

Thanks gentlemen. I'm planning on calling Crosman today. I'd like to keep my stock but it's more important for me to have a properly working rifle.
