went to walmart for bicycle tubes and came home with airgun stuff. the co2 was $8 and the last box. the pellgun oil ($1) was also the last one. plenty of rifle cases ($3.5) and pellet pens ($2). i bought the last of the true oil ($2) and the last bipod ($7). they only had 1 container of bbs left, i should have picked them up, but they weren't on sale.
-
Walmart may be going out of the gun business.
-
I went to my Walmart yesterday (San Diego) and there were no pellets, bullets, scopes, and only 3 Spriner pellet guns and minimal gun cleaning supplies. The shelves were being taken up with camping gear, and the gun shelves were basiclally empty. It does seem like they are phasing out of the gun business here in SD.
-
Online vendors are the new brick and mortar.
-
3 weeks ago i went in looking for mantles for my coleman propane lantern and they didn't have them. the camping area wasn't what it use to be. i had to order fishing line from Bass Pro because the shelves at wm are empty of line. this is what happens when everything is made overseas.

AMEN. This current climate has been an eye opener on our level of reliance on so many other countries for goods.
Walmart only had one tin of 22 pellets of any kind when I went in early this week.
-
Used to make a beeline for the sporting goods dept. everytime we went to Walmart. Now we only go to Walmart if we have a specific item that we can only get there and just walk right past the sporting goods dept. Betty Lou has a habit of going to the clearance isle.... to be honest, we haven't found a thing there worth buying in over a year.
They even took my BP meds off the discount list... the co-pay doubled. I'm better off picking them up at the local Walgreens right here in our little town.
Seeya later Walmart.
-
Nice scores, Carl!
My local Super Walmart has been hit or miss, since this COVID mess started. Airgun and AG supplies comes and goes, but mostly have been sparse to nil. This was the same with fishing gear, but that's making a recovery.
Camping supplies have been plentiful and the powder burner case is still well stocked. PB ammo looks to be ok as well.
Bicycles? Forget about it!

Crosman pellets are made in New York. Why not full shelves then?
-
My local Sprawlmart had next to nothing Airgun-related when I ran over there this morning after seeing wolverine's post. Nothing they had was clearance priced. They recently stopped selling any powderburner ammo - supposedly all the other stores in Kalifornistan too.

Local Walmart has nada.
Online Walmart still has these.
Crosman 12-Gram CO2 Powerlet Cartridges For Use With Air Rifles And Air Pistols (40-Count): $15.46

Which is a good thing since I'll be ordering 3 more of them 1st of next month.
-
I used to swing past the sporting goods every visit to Wall World, used to be to pick up whatever airgun related was on sale, now the only things I buy from WM is cat litter delivered to my door and last time the double bag of charcoal, that I made a bee line to the pickup section, while dodging people who can not see well wearing mask ::)
-
I just look it up on Ebay and order it, I don't mess with the big box stores anymore. The few sporting goods stores in this area have the weekend needs and soft goods but lack the real fishing and hunting supplies. Joys of living in a tourist trap.
-
just checked my wm in fl and no price change and same items, i even scanned to check.
-
The last 3 times I have been to our Walmart, in 2 months period, I have bought the last 40 count box of Co2 carts on the self. So they are still getting them, maybe in lower quantities, or People are scarfing them up as soon as they come in.
Yes, the shelves are all but empty.

My walmart was pretty low on stuff today, too. I did notice they have Tru-oil marked down to $5. I was tempted, but I don't have any current or near future need for it, and I know there has to be some kind of limit to the shelf life of an unopened bottle. Left it there.
-
I was there today and grabbed the last four tins of CPHPs for 6.24 each and a few other items. The shelves were going bare.
-
I was at my most frequent Super Walmart and of course perused the sporting goods dept. Restocked with about 6 different makes of airguns, buit no airgun ammo.
However, I was really bummed to find that the powder burner case was completely free of the usual rifles. Completely gone! Last week, it was nearly full, with maybe 40 rifles.
I'm certain, they didn't just merely sold out because the car has now been reconfigured to hold pb ammo. The rifle racks have been removed.

No PB's... NONE
No Gun cases... NONE
BUT there were 5 Co2 cart 40 packs on the lonely shelf... I grabbed 2.

I once used those same arguments to defend shopping there. But I got burned by poor quality products, crummy customer service, and indifferent management. I decided that if I had to drive 30 miles to town in the first place I'd get my provisions from people that had enough sense to act like they wanted my business. I'm certain that mine is an isolated experience characteristic of the truly backwards nature of the bucolic little community in which I reside. ::)

I live by 7 Walmarts in less than a 30 minute driving radius. I've been to all of them, and I can tell you that even at this close proximity to one another, the service, attitude, and store cleaniness are significantly varied. It's all about the management culture at each location. This is why I mostly shop at just one location. This location has never done me wrong.........and I've been going there since I've moved to this area, 16 years ago.

When wlamart came in we lost many of the ma & pa shops to it. The locals screamed about, but they obviously were part of the problem.
I will say though, our little grocery market is not only thriving, they have expanded and needed to put on an addition. They only sell locally sourced produce and meats when available, and are second to none.
They are also the only store around that sells Boars Head. The ONLY deli meat i'll eat.

It is sad to see small businesses get outcompeted, but this is happening to large corporate retailers as well. Times are a changing, and you have to be able to evolve for a chance at survival.
For the past 20 years or so, Walmart has been deemed the "evil empire" of retail, but now Amazon has claim that throne. There will always be those, that despise those at the top.

I was going to brew up a good response replete with Keynesian rhetoric but I will distill it down to this. Walmart buys from the lowest bidder in spite of possible ethical issues to provide us with products at the lowest prices (Amazon is in the same boat). Is there any successful retailer that doesn't face these ethical issues when they compete on the world market for cheap goods? I have simply decided that I would rather pay more for a better quality product (maybe made in the USA?) and not worry about my new scope being made by what are essentially a dictator's political prisoners (forced to work as slave labor in a state owned factory thinly disguised as a private company to escape our import/export laws). I apologize for ranting. If this veers too close to politics I am sorry. I don't mean to offend anyone. Because we live on a small income we are compelled to shop at Walmart just because of those cheap prices. But I don't like it and I'm actively trying to shop only at local businesses. I don't have any data but I am willing to bet that Walmart has made a killing during the pandemic. Local businesses have only suffered.
-
I remember when Sam was still alive running tbings. All the stores had large banners hanging in them annoucing "Made in America" and most of the items were made in the U.S.

I raised this question some time ago. There are some 5 WALMARTS within 40 miles of me in different directions and they've been out of CPHP's for weeks. Ain't none of 'em got any pistol boolits either.
Walmart stopped selling handgun ammo last year after a couple of mass shootings. They also stopped selling 223/556 and 7.62x39 ammo.
Pellets seem to be hard to come by in most big box stores these days. My local Walmart has been out of CPHP for weeks, but I was able to find 4 in stock at a store an hour away. Snatched up two and left the other two behind for someone else. My local Walmart did have .177 Crosman Destroyers in stock, which ended up shooting shotgun like patterns in my Nova Liberty.
Before I got the .177 Liberty a month or so back, my local Academy was selling RWS Meisterkugeln pellets in .177, but i had no use for them. Now that I have a gun in that caliber they're out of stock for who knows how long.
-

Yep, us too; however, this thread is about airgun and sporting stuff, not 'things'.

Same here. It's more expensive than all the others but you can tell the difference.

My local Walmarts did not show any inventories of Crosman pellets, I was directed to neighboring citys 30 miles south of me. I picked up the last 4 tins they had of Crosman .22 Cal. Premier HP's at the first stop.
The lady who opened the case mentioned an unadvertised sale on a "Barra 1866 Cowboy Series Lever Action" pellet rifle for $15... last one!!! Goes without saying... I snatched it up!!!
I stopped at another neighboring Walmart which claimed to have 5 tins of the Crosman .22 Cal. Premier HP's... turns out they weren't in stock.
I had my dad 90 miles to the east of me hit up the Walmart in his neighboring town... he was able to latch on to another 6 tins of the Crosman .22 Cal. Premier HP's for me.
On the way home, I decided to stop into my local Walmart which had claimed '0' inventory... I found 6 tins in the locked case. Added these to my stash!!!
Netted 8,000 rounds in total... I think I'll be good for awhile...

Great score on that Barra 1866, IMO made the trip worth it, even if no pellets were scored ;)

When walmart took their anti gun stance it was my understanding that they were going to sell out of all guns and ammo and stop selling them all together, bundling airguns in with firearms. I believe walmart put these sales out to deplete their stock

No , if they are depleted in air gun products they are just sold out ,and are waiting for more stock according to the older guy that runs the sports department at the Walmart that I went to ,and I think its true because I went there when they were out of stock , and now they are back into stock ...

Long before Walmart it was Sears that came in and wiped out the mom & pops in a town. Their catalog was like a paper Amazon. They even sold lego-style house kits. Some of them are still standing in my neighborhood.
My buddy found two 40 packs of powerlets for $12 at his local Walmart last week. I figure they must have been priced wrong; on the website they're $16. He went to three other Walmarts and didn't find any more.

Each Walmart store/district is managed individually, in regards to what merchandises are sold at individual stores........for the most part.
AR type rifles and it's accessories were removed system wide.

Seems plenty of air guns but no pellets . Maybe a stray tin of ruger pointed or Gamo red fires. And that's if your super lucky hitting walmarts or what ever in a 200 mile drive to find something on a shelf.

I think the government must be buying up all the pellets like they did with all the .22 LR ammo a few years back. ;D

Heck if I mail order pellets shooting my powder .22 comes out far cheaper. Even my .22 mag comes out even.
Cheap easy air gun shooting seems becoming a thing of the past at the way it is now.
Remember when you could go to bills dolar store or tg&y. And buy a bucket of bullets for cheap and shoot till you were sick of it or everything a round was shot up beyond recognition with grandpa's .22 single shot s.l. lr stevens.

CNN tends to not report the whole story....
Quote:
Stocks of publicly traded gun companies fell sharply Friday following Walmart’s decision to remove firearms and ammunition from shelves in some US stores.
Shares of American Outdoor Brands, formerly known as Smith & Wesson, fell nearly 4%, while Sturm, Ruger & Co. stock dipped 1% in midday trading. Ammunition maker Vista Outdoor fell 10% and Axon Enterprise, which makes the Taser stun gun, fell more than 4%.
The company’s declines are shadowing a broader selloff in the markets, with stocks on pace to record one of their worst weeks of the year. All three indexes are in the red on Friday and on track for their worst performance since March.
