Title: 66 vs 760 Receivers
Post by: Ronno6 on August 20, 2020, 03:52:55 PM
Are 66 and 760 receivers interchangeable ?

Well, owning one 66AB, 13 760's, & 1 AIR17, I'm inclined to say they are very similar at the least. They all mount the butt stocks the same way with what I'm sure is the same bolt/nut combination as well. I never tried to interchange them, since after July 1975, the serial number with build date is on the receiver. So I  would say, give it a shot. I'm sure others would like a documented answer.

I had a broken 66 sitting around and a pretty accurate 760D so I put the buttstock, pump tube, pump linkage and forearm from the 66 onto the 760D. No alteration or modifications needed. You can't tell it from a 66 unless you read the receiver.

After working on several of them, I thought as much.

I would say no.
The 66 has a straw barrel and outer barrel shroud while the 760 just has a barrel around 3/8 or so in diameter, so the hole in the receiver where the barrel comes out is too large on a model 66.

That's about the only difference though, and you really cant make a 760 out of a model 66 reciever.
At best you can really just swap the tubes and furniture.

Oddly enough there were actually some model 66's that had a model 760 stock, and just the stock.
I think towards the end of the model 66 production Crosman was doing some crazy stuff.
Throughout the 90's and into the early 2000's you had the 664sb and 764sb which were black stock model 66 and model 760 rifles with silver trim triggers barrels and scopes ( also a 664gt with gold trim and trigger, all have standard recievers and markings )
In the 200's it seems they were doing lots of random mixing and matching with the stocks and colored accent pieces.

A number of 664sb and 664gt rifles were actually shipped with the solid black 760 stocks from the 764sb.

There were even solid black 66 stocks and guns with only some of the accent parts being silver or gold as they should be.

Good point. I forgot about the barrel shroud. But a bushing of the right size would work in that case.

Good thought, but the opposite of my intentions.....
I was looking to see if I could put 760 mreal receivers on plastic receivered 66s..............

It could probably be done.
The later 66's ( not sure on the earlier ones )have a plastic piece that the barrel shroud mounts to, theres a chance it could be modified to fit in a 760 receiver.
