Title: Uragan compact .22 tuning with Huma regulator
Post by: KarlH on August 12, 2020, 01:57:42 PM
I just got a new Uragan compact 22 a week ago, a Huma-Air regulator for it the day before the Uragan arrived, and no pellets/slugs until last Saturday.  After shooting 50 or so pellets as it arrived factory new, I shot 10 shot strings over the chrono with 5 different pellets from 13 grains to 25 grains, and two different sizes of H&N 21 grain slugs(.217 and .218)  By the way, H&N should label them as .216 and .217.  My tin of their .217's measure .21615 - .21625 and their 218's measure .21675-.21685 on my one inch micrometer.  That is an average of 5 random slugs each and at least 5 measurements of each slug rotating them.

I was shooting at a 30 yard target while chronographing them, but wasn't taking my time, just enough to have a general idea if the Uragan liked or hated each.  My lightest pellets were Falcon accuracy plus from czechoslovakia averaged 867 fps with SD 2.23 and were by far the most accurate out of the Uragan with as it arrived factory new.  CTC without taking my time was .25 inches.

this is what all the shot strings did with factory settings in black, and Huma regulator in blue: set at 135 BAR.

Falcon accuracy plus 13.43 grains
Low         High   Average       ES   SD   energy
863           871           867           8   2.23   22.41

Crossman 14.3 grains

838            843   841           5   1.73   22.45

H&N field target 14.66 grains
828          832   830            4   1.41   22.42

FX 15.89 grains
806            815   809            9   2.44   23.09

JSB 18.1 grains
789            796   793            7   2.44   25.27

885            892   888            7   2.44   31.69
adjust hammer spring down half turn
823            843   838          20   5.4   28.22 That low I think was caused by adjusting hammer spring while it was cocked first shot, next lowest was 835

FX 25.39 grains
683            690   687            7   2.44   26.6  I shot just one of these after I installed Huma and before I dropped hammer spring tension, hit 35 ft/lbs at just over 780 fps

H&N 21 grains slug .217 -- micrometer measures them much closer to .216,
only 1.5 to 2.5/10,000's over .216.  pretty accurate
708            713   711            5   1.41   23.57

H&N 21 grains slug .218 -- micrometer measures them smaller than .217 by approx. 2/10,000's  lost cause accuracy
714            717   716            3   1.00   23.90

I adjusted the hammer spring down after the first string with the Huma because it was loud, and easily used 50% more air for that string than it did with factory settings and regulator.  After adjusting hst down, it used virtually identical amount of air for 10 shot string as the factory settings/regulator did, 12% more energy and 50fps faster.  Still kind of loud compared to before and I have lots of room on hammer spring tension.

My question is, anyone have more than just a guess of what I should try to set Huma regulator to and keep this velocity with room to raise/lower it a little with hammer spring tension for tuning to whatever pellet I decide to?  It is a pain to get to the regulator and I don't want to do it lots of times to fine tune.

edited because my palm accidentally posted before i finished typing(laptop)
edited again for typo on fx 25 grain energy.

Thank you for sharing all this info. I have almost no info or help for you. I have the .22 compact with Huma reg installed. I bought it used and set up as it sits. I was told the reg is adjusted to 110bar. Mine is super quiet and pushing the Hades at around 900fps. Shot count is still great. I am looking to find more power and not extremely concerned with loss of shot count or noise going up. I have a Donnyfl for it to quiet it down, but want to be able to shoot slugs with it for more power and distance.

Let me know if you have discovered anything new since August.
