Title: Likes and Applause
Post by: mrbulk on August 11, 2020, 01:09:45 AM
New on GTA, searched the forums for a place to make suggestions so best I could figure, it was this gate here(?).

Don't know if this has been visited upon before, but is there a way we could offer to give posts Likes / Dislikes, or some kind of applause or encouragement, etc.? Or I guess we could just write a new post each time, but might it become cumbersome, if you just want to offer a kind word or two?

Just wondering, and thanks for any replies. (See? I can put my own smiley right here :D, but only for my own post :-[)

Yes, agreed and thanks for linking it. I saw that section, where you rate ppl you deal with. It would also be cool though to be able to express a quick opinion of a specific post by clicking on a thumbsup/thumbsdown icon, etc.

We tried that once, with kudos we have the option of turning on and off. Didn't work real well. Some folks gave negative kudos and started an online war. Really don't need that. But it would be nice to be able to rate a thread or post....

Maybe only allow a "thumbs up" or "like" option?

That's what I have had experience with on other forums....(political forums)- the only option was to "like" a post. If you didn't like it, you had to posit a differing opinion. Haha

Yupp, our competition just seemed to have started this particular function.
And there is a LIKES-Counter.
Another well established AG forum has this function since a long time. 👍🏼😊

There's a "rate topic" bar above the original post in each thread.
The kudos wars sounds like they would have been fun to watch.

That would also be cool; I looked just now but don't see it though. Is "Rate Topic" expressed in different terminology or something?

It seems to appear on the desktop site, but not the mobile.

Charlie....look at the top of this thread, bold dark bar across the top, on the right side of that bar. You should see "Rate Topic" followed by some gold stars.

Things of real value here are made into stickies, but who wants to read an old sticky post  ::)
Otherwise we keep typing our likes and dislikes, think it makes sure we really mean it  ;)

Well, I do most of my forum writing and reading on my mobile, so that's too bad that the rating bar appears only on the desktop version....  :-\

Oh well at least that way I get to run up my post count faster. I'm hankering for promotion to Plinker anyway.  ;D

Well since we are all suffering from the sillies at the moment,  Mr. Tater sir, I just had to find this pic and post it.  Took it years ago on the front door of my barber shop.  Every time I see your avatar, (usually when you are moving one of my posts)  I think of this pic.

Just a thought:  It is not a good idea to blow coffee out your nose - you miss the full affects of the caffeine.

Yeah, we like to crack — both jokes and rifle shots, that is.

And yet, we still don't have any way to express our appreciation through a LIKE button or similar here at GTA.... 🤔

Now, the AGN forum just started to offer its users a heart to click to like a post. A heart.

Now, I'll try to be real here:
It just somehow feels wrong to click a red ❤  for that guy who just posted a video of a bunch of gory animal killings — just to express my appreciation for him!!
Know what I mean?!  😄

Anyhow, just sayin'....

If you feel inclinded to apply a bit of organizational psychology to our beloved GTA forum...:
🔶 By praising good posts and good posters, they will feel motivated to produce more good posts. 👍🏼
And that's good for GTA and for us airgunners, right? 😄

Yeah, See? I would like to "Like" these last two posts but cannot, short of typing an entire 'nother post...but at least that made me post more, which got me off Plinker status real fast... ;D

About the best this place has to offer is a Message Icon for 'Thumbs UP' or 'Thumbs DOWN'.   :(  ain't it!
