Title: JSB Match Diablo Exact Pellets
Post by: Dave S on July 28, 2020, 11:40:27 PM
I was at Mac-1 last Saturday and Tim had some of these pellets in .22 cal 34 gr. and 25.3 gr. So, I picked up a tin of 200 each. Took them home and already had the crony set up.
Took my trusty Tim special "Hot Valve" 180 out and took them for a drive. Now the best FPE. I could ever get was 11.3 FPE with the standard 14.3 gr. Super Dome pellets clocking at around 620 fps. average with the Gun's Bulk tube sun heated to 100 F. I did the same thing testing both of these Monster and Jumbo Pellets. The 33.9 gr. Monsters clocked in at 444 fps. at 14.9 FPE and the Jumbo's clocked at 509.3 fps producing 14.6 FPE. Co2 has it's limitations regarding energy that can be produced. The weight is the key! Another nice thing is that there was no bullet drop at 10 Meters in fact, these are the most accurate pellets I ever shot in 30 years! Got the 3x9 Bugbuster and watched the pellets go in the same hole! For you guys with a 160 or 180 may like to try these!  The Pic below is my 1966 180 I bought brand new for about $20.00 when I was 15. Still my all time favorite! ;)

That's good info, Dave.  Thanks!

Tim has always said that C02 guns favor heavier pellets, but I had no idea that the difference would be that great.  Could you post some pics of your targets?

It makes you wonder how much effort towards accuracy the makers put in back when your gun was made.

I'll try them in my .22 QB at some point as I haven't been happy with how well any of the pellets I've used so far have done.

Stay safe,

J~

Jeff, I spent the morning testing the 34 gr Monster against the 14.3 gr Premier Domed Pellets. Conclusion: Domes are more accurate! Monsters tend to shoot a bit left and higher
Same testing temperature 82 degrees...gun gassed up for each different weight pellet. The Monsters have a special purpose.....and it ain't for shooting targets! Just like to know where they hit and it ain't far off. Pics below! the top pic was done yesterday. Now this is as good as it gets with this 1966 180. No, it's not an Olympic shooter....It's my main "Rat Killer"! 8)

I shoot my vintage CO2 guns quite a lot, mostly at 20 yards.  I mostly stay with light to medium weight pellets, shoot a lot of 13.43 and 16 grain JSBs.  The heaviest I have tried are 21 grain H&N.

My recently repaired Crosman 114 has turned out to be the most powerful CO2 gun I have.   It will shoot an 18 grain pellet right around 600 fps for 14+ fpe.  The 18 grain JSB is very accurate.  Believe I'll try those 21 grain H&N in it today.  Putting in a pellet order soon, may try another heavy.

Dave I believe you have your pellets confused.
JSB makes the 34g Beasts & the 25.39g Monsters & Redesigned Monsters. They also have a pointed 25.39g Straton Monster.

BTW, good looking rifle.

You're right, Dave  The 34 gr. are the "Beast" Pellets. I was surprised they heavy Pellets didn't drop any at 40 feet. In fact,  they tended to group a little higher. At 7 cents a piece, shooting those can get expensive. That's the same price I paid years ago for 7.62 x 39 AK rounds! Thank's for the correction! dave

Thanks for the pics, Dave.  As I recall, my 180 wasn't all that accurate, but the pellets available in the seventies weren't all that great either...

Thinking I should look into making a mold to form heavier pellets with.  Seven cents a round for pellets is just crazy!

Stay safe,

I have bars of lead and I'm not getting into that until I can't buy precision Pellets! Get what ever you can in LEAD RIGHT NOW! Somethings going on here! Gold, almost  $2000.00 an oz!
My 600 and 400 require the Domed pellets! My Bolt guns don't care what you put through them. NO COPPER EVER! BTW, got some vintage pellets I'm going to test next week in my "Trusty 180" Pics below. dave

My Model 180s are all accurate.  Shot these groups a few years ago.  Five shots each at 20 yards.  Nine different pellets and Gamo round balls, this one's not finicky at all.

I have several  tins of older pellets, Crosman and others.  Pretty junky, the accuracy just isn't there.

Wow!

That's good info, Terry.  I've saved the pic for future reference.

Thanks!
