Title: 2400KT - Pellet Weight and CO2
Post by: s2kohio on July 17, 2020, 09:38:46 PM
My 2400KT is on the assembly line at the Crosman Custom Shop. It’s coming with a 14.6” barrel.

I saw .22 caliber pellet which is 21.14 grains
Haendler & Natermann H&N Baracuda Domed Airgun Pellets .22 Caliber / 21.14 Grains (200 Count).

I’m wondering if the 2400KT can handle a pellet that heavy. My goal is to humanly dispatch squirrels at 30 feet.

Also since I’ve never owned a CO2 pellet gun what’s the best (cheapest) cartridges to use.

Thanks for all responses.

My 2240 carbine with a 14.5" tube likes 17.9gr Sniper Magnums and 18.21gr Crow Magnums.  It shoots the H&N Baracuda 21.14gr pellets well but I think the lighter pellets are fractionally more accurate.  Apparently co2 guns get an increase in fpe with heavier pellets, at the cost of lower velocity.  If you don't mind the howitzer like arcing trajectory they can be very useful for close range pesting.  Check out my post on the hunting gate about Dinosaur hunting with a 2240. ;D ;D

You would be doing yourself  and the gun a disservice shooting anything heavier than a 18gr.

For dispatching squirrels at 30 feet, you will be PLENTY fine with standard 14.3gr  CPHP"s from Wally World.

Co2 does not generate  enough pressure  to justify shooting heavies.

I have only used a standard 14.3. cphp in mine, but it hits with enough authority that I don't think there would be any problem dropping a squirrel at 30 feet with proper shot placement using these pellets. If I was shooting the 2400kt and a squirrel showed up I would not hesitate.
I do not have a chrony but the test target that came with mine said it averaged at 498fps.

Crosman cartridges are great , affordably priced , and my gun gets I believe 35 or so good shots on one Crosman cartridge when it's not a cold day.

Stirring the pot a bit here  ;D get some slugs I have found the .217 AVS slugs do well for close range pwesting <~ Elmer Fudd . get the lighter weights 18-30 gr. will drop a squirrel drt @ 15 yards with no pass-through.
Things not many have tried ,with all the " slug urban myths" floating around.

My 2240 & 2400KT both like .22 Meisterkugeln wadcutters. They smack squirrels dead out to 30 yds, so 30 ft should be a cinch.
Plus, being a wadcutter, not too much chance of a pass through. Cheaper than the Baracudas too.

CPHPs work very well in mine as well as Miesterkuglens and Crosman wadcutters.
