Title: Remington and AEA?? Crosman may be stepping up their aquisitions
Post by: Zeddymon on July 06, 2020, 06:22:27 PM
noticed AEA airguns being re-branded under Remington in the UK,,,,,

https://www.solware.co.uk/remington-hp-varmint-carbine (https://www.solware.co.uk/remington-hp-varmint-carbine)

seems crosman will be stepping up their game teaming up with Kral and AEA and this should be a real market shake up
i see at least 5 AEA designs under the Remington name, in europe......not in the USA yet

Good catch on this information! It kind of kills me that they are not updating the MROD with a sidelever and an alumunim tube, but making it a semi with a longer steel tube, but hey, at least they are doing something. I really wished they had stayed in-house production, so that parts would never be a problem, but it's not to be I guess. This will probably come back to bite them though; it's really a long process to get anything from China lately, and we're having diplomatic problems with Turkey lately too. It will eventually all come down to parts and service, which will now be a lot harder to control, and with covid-19 more so.

I think crosman licenses the Remington name in the US.   Maybe someone else licenses in the UK?   Even the break-barrels don't look like crosman product.

12 fpe is high power in the UK so maybe a higher powered version in the works for the US market at some point??

What about this one:

(It's at Airgun Depot as well--> https://www.airgundepot.com/remington-thunderjet.html#item-reviews-container (https://www.airgundepot.com/remington-thunderjet.html#item-reviews-container) )

The UK is excluded from the Remington licensing. https://www.crosman.com/connect/crosman-acquires-exclusive-license-for-remington-branded-airguns/ (https://www.crosman.com/connect/crosman-acquires-exclusive-license-for-remington-branded-airguns/)

Yep, it does say UK is excluded, but then solware has remington air rifles also available in the US.

One more example:

https://www.solware.co.uk/remington-tyrant-xgp (https://www.solware.co.uk/remington-tyrant-xgp)

https://www.airgundepot.com/remington-tyrant-xgp.html (https://www.airgundepot.com/remington-tyrant-xgp.html)

Obviously US is under exclusive license so that Remington at solware is a crossman.

Perhaps Crossman has the license for Remington in UK, but it is just not an exclusive license. (So other companies can also use the Remington name there.)

I wonder who licenses it in the UK?

They play up the mfg as the "real" Remington.  https://www.solware.co.uk/air-weapons/air-rifle-pellet-gun/remington-rifles (https://www.solware.co.uk/air-weapons/air-rifle-pellet-gun/remington-rifles)

"Remington Arms was founded in 1816 in upstate New York and is one of the country’s oldest continuously operating manufacturers."

That would be Ilion NY.   Heard that they are filing the paperwork for bankruptcy proceedings.   :(

I always wondering why we can't get models like the Sabre or Aircobra here in the US.

Actually, you can get more powerful airguns in the UK all you need is a permit called FAC.

Yep Airgunning has been moving more and more into re-branding products with well established recognized names to make them more appealing.

Remington branded products are imported into the UK by Sportsmarketing (SMK). This company has done this for a few years now. At one point the owner sold the company to Remington and although it remained with the same trading name. The holding company was known over here as Remington Outdoors. However, when Remington needed to divest some of its business, the original owner of SMK who still ran the company for Remington, bought his company back again.
Solware is only a retailer.
