Good Morning,
I'm sooooo frustrated with my TalonSS.177 only because I know it shoots quite good groups but for some reason I cannot do it consistently.
The gun and scope are in great condition. The problem is me getting a good view down the scope because of the tank size.
Did the Talon Tunes Tank Adapter help with this as others have said it would?
Thank You,
Johnny

I used a chinese z regulator valve. It actually works well for getting a better view down the scope. The regulator part is ok too but I'm using it to reduce power on my condor. I have no doubt the talon tunes part is a way better part though. When I bought my setup it was 68$ and a pretty good deal for what it is and my expectations of it.

Have you thought about giving this a try? It really makes a difference imo.

I did not think of that option. I'm hoping to go to a medium high scope mount OR just stay with the high mount and get what I need in terms of eye position / cheek weld.

I'm using the Altaros regulator and there's no offset it just adds to LOP and that's Ok. I have long arms.

I used a drop down tank adapter for a couple of years, it definitely does put you closer to the scope and it does increase length of pull.
I loved mine. Mine was not a TalonTunes adapter, I bought it from a fellow in Crete just before Tony came out with his. I always kicked myself for not waiting for Tony’s as it was much better executed.
I also used a offset spacer Jim Gaska made as I never liked having to jack that scope up so high, after all that is why we have flat top AR’s.
When you have a scope so high above your bore, and don’t use a level on you gun or don’t pay attention to it, any canting, ever so slight will manifest itself in lateral stringing.
I was just on TalonTunes site and bought a wokguard 15 and considered buying that tank adapter.
I resisted the urge as it would be used on a Texan and I am unsure if it would restrict air flow to the Texan valve when the air goes through the dog leg. This would not be a problem with your SS though, it was not a problem on my Condor either, but the Texan puts out considerably more air.
Not to hijack your thread, but has anyone noticed less velocity after installing one on a Texan?

Count me interested in this. Although currently for me 165 is a bit to rich.
I apparently have an n-tech bottle drop on my talondor. But I don’t see where. Just bought rifle recently. But the guy I got it from passed unexpectedly and I’m trying to figure it all out

I definitely dislike having the scope so high but I can adapt and deal with it. CANNOT seem to consistently hold this rifle, period, period, period.
I've now intentionally set my scope level off a few degrees CCW and zeroed for that. Still testing.
These folks have another flavor of dropper that MAY accomplish the same thing...

Johnny,
Yeah, the two major cons of the AF design are the scope height problem, and the frame flex.
I found that the MadDog half stock on a pre-condor SS Doug Noble made up for me using two frames mated together solved the frame flex, the Dogleg adapter fixed the scope height problem. Problem was the weight, which I notice a bunch on my Texan LSS 257 in spite of a lighter cf bottle, but that LSS is a bench gun for 200 yards and further.
I much preferred the tank adapter and the WOKGUARD to fix the frame flex, it was so much easier to mount to my shoulder and kept a light rifle light. However although it helped with frame flex, it did not address it as efficiently as the MadDog half stock.

That's a lot to absorb, won't lie.
I got some finger crossing going on. This gun is very nice but we are having a deep level disagreement and the gun is winning. They are difficult to sell and I would sell it immediately if I had a decent no-scammer offer.
All the extras on this aren't worth beans in resale.
-
Johnny,
Unfortunately that is true of most pcp’s as these are custom features. Some times it is better to unbolt the custom features and sell them separately.
If your tank is even slightly loose groups will be erratic. Also try just holding the rifle by the pistol grip with both hands and resting the forearm gently on the bag or bipod. Almost like the artillery hold used for springers.
Are you getting round groups or do you have either lateral or vertices flyers, what pellet and how far are you shooting and what scope are you using?

Johnny,
Yesterday I had to rezeroing my scope on my Texan as it was canted. I put a level on the flats of the shroud as I had removed the LSS shroud. I put a level on the scopes elevation turrents and rotated the scope to match the level on the frame flats.
I had removed the LSS shroud to polish the barrel interior using both # 7 compound followed up with Flintz compound using a ball bearing handled rod and a bore hag.
My first groups were with the Texan reassembled and in a Caldwell tri-pod, I was shooting with Arsenal mold 257420 bullets cast of 40-1 alloy that drop a hair over.258. Those two groups exhibited lateral stringing due to the tripod not holding the rifle securely and me not paying attention to the reticle being straight up and down.
I then quickly assembled a table to shoot from, and paid close attention to that reticle. I used the same target, just flipped it over and shot two 3 shot groups using the bipod/butt monopod and gripping the pistol grip securely with both hands. The two resulting groups were so small they are hard to measure.
The third group was with the pressure low, I started at 3650 psi, but was down to 2200 psi, and then had horizontal stringing due to the low pressure.

I would try that 20 moa canted scope base- For my .30 Condor, I had to use one (I think I got mine from Pyramyd, but the one that's linked above is better) in conjunction with an angled tank adapter. Not a TT one, just one that pushes the tank out a little and angles it down. But I'm also running a 62 cu in tank... For a standard sized tank, I'd try the 20 moa base first. I'm not gonna lie- the cheek weld and eye relief is a quirk of the AF guns...
Also, make sure the tank is TIGHT.
Maybe send a few patches down the barrel to clean it- that's always something a lot of people over-look...
Those Maddog stocks really do go a LONG way in stiffening up the frame- which is something that's been an issue since the beginning. That's why Doug does so much work to stiffen them up.

I'm going to AF school on this one!!!
I already purchased the TT drop down adapter and should be here by Saturday.
I hadn't a clue about the frames needing more rigidity. I'm not gonna fix that.
My tank is always tight and the tophat screws are blue LocTited in.
It's a challenge to not get upset about it but I've learned a lot and I'm better at not getting pi$$ed off about it.

There is for sure a learning curve w/the AF guns, but once you learn their quirks, and get through the teething stage, they can be pretty nice platforms!
-
Johnny,
Do you have a valve wrench to remove the valve? You will need one and a vice, many of my ex-wives have commented on my vices, but I am speaking of a padded bench vice to hold that tank while you remove the valve with a valve wrench that looks like this.

Yes. A couple hours ago I remove the valve and the regulator and adjusted the regulator to a hundred and ten bar
-
Johnny,
What scope are you using? Do you have the parallax set correctly for your shooting distance?
-
I'm using a hawk Adbantage 4-12 x 40
And no I'm not at all sure whether or not The Parallax is correct
-
I've definitely played around with a parallax and I just can't get this thing figured out
-
I'm totally comfortable completely disassembling and reassembling the gun including the trigger unit.
I'm interested in everything you have to say and I have to be offline for the next hour and a half

I'm pretty sure this was a parallax and ergonomics issue. Maybe mostly parallax.

Johnny,
Looks like that drop down adapter worked for you.
One thing most of us missed with this post. John has owned and shot quality pcp airguns for a while, the SS however was giving him fits due to the AF ergonomics.
I used a off set tank adapter 8 years ago and loved it.
Stay safe out there,
