back in the 1980's had a couple .22 MSPs...both modded to~18 fpe by a friends father... a 2200 crosman and a Benji... they were very accurate with the green tin Benji pellets... used them for hunting for about 5 years...and before those was my cousins Benji in the 70's...Have memories of shooting Daisy and Crosman MSPs before that...
Am A life long pumper fan...heck PCPs are just a fancy MSP with the pump separated if you hand pump...
I do see the attraction of fewer pumps for a back yard rifle that you want to limit power on... I limit my power to 12fpe for my backyard...
But I do not mind pumping...so I have built for power... and can still vary power to only 12 fpe due to the nature of a MSP... my preferred platform is the 13XX pistol/Carbine...
you mention the MK177 well it is with mods capable of just over 900fps with 7.9g CPHP...with a 130*f valve 1024 fps... of course the plastic clam shell body did not last... but that did not matter it was destined to become the power plant for a 1322 hybrid... I do not like my pellet rifles to look like military weapons either...
it ended up as a MK 1322 and 20+ fpe... https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=77091.40 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=77091.40)
I am a HUGE Fan of Tackdriver10's work... he takes pumpers to the NEXT LEVEL...
