Title: Weihrauch Gunstock Inletting?
Post by: SpiralGroove on June 14, 2020, 06:49:48 PM
Hey Guys,
This may not be the right Gate for this post, but I believe someone here can likely help?
I believe the R1/HW80/HW35 have the same receiver size (34.75mm) as do the HW30, 50 and 95.

1) I'm looking to make my own Walnut stock for my HW80S and interested to know what size shaper bit is required (likely 35mm) to inlet the receiver tube?  This is a metric size.

2) Also looking for the bit size needed to inlet trigger block and guard.

Any help would be appreciated ;).

I know exactly what you're talking about, I had examined my new 35E Blue seeing the walnut is so closely bedded on all sides of the air chamber you'd think it just grew out of the metal!

There is no crack anywhere to see where metal and wood comes together on ALL sides, even the rear!  I think this is why the vibration is different I in compression stroke--very "contained" feeling in SOLID metal without any rattle anywhere.

All my E's have this with the walnut, but when I look at my other HWs I see gaps in places, especially the rear caps, not seen in 35's.

As to the SIZE of the cylinder in comparison to the HW80 or R1 I'd be interested to learn all I can--I've asked myself the question many times about the comparisons of HW57 v HW50  and HW97 v R1 and HW35 v R1 and 97--it got confusing all over again..... ::)

After doing some research, I think a 1-3/8" round nose bit will work on the HW80S stock.  1-3/8" = 1.375".
1.375" = roughly 34.925mm, which is just larger than the receiver tube.  The receiver in-letting can also be made larger using a 1-3/8" dowel/sand paper.

Now I just need the bit size for the Rekord trigger and cocking slots :D.

I will measure a HW95 receiver tube and do the same ....

The HW80 and the underlevers, HW77/97 have a bigger receiver size than the 95/50/R10 etc.

The HW80 and underlevers share the same size receiver.

I measure the O.D of my San Rafael R1 at 1.365 inches.  I would assume that has not changed.

I have an old HW80 tube that's ruined on the inside. I may or may not have the rear plug, can't remember. If it would help you in your stock building adventure hit me up.

In my recent HW50s stock making fun, I used a table saw followed by a section of pvc pipe wrapped in sandpaper for the main tube inletting.

This IRWIN Marples Forstner Bit Set,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07145HBPL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07145HBPL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)
had all the sizes for the rest of the inletting (trigger group, cocking arm groove, etc).
