Title: BKL-257 single strap mounts suitable for springer?
Post by: Damo666 on June 11, 2020, 08:30:11 AM
Anyone use these single strap mounts for a Springer?

The BKL-263 double strap would be fine, but overkill I think.

I have used the double straps with great results on my guns. None are super mags or anything, just R10 and HW77KS, HW50.

I used the single straps once on my HW77K and they wanted to move without tightening them down a lot more than I was comfortable with. I think they could have been made to work, but the double straps always worked fine.

I wouldn't chance it and just get the doubles. The screws aren't very big and it would be real easy to strip the clamp screws out trying to get them extra snug. Ask me how I know..... ;D

after much effort with the gas ram rifle in my avatar pic as described in my signature, i don't even bother with any but BKL 6 bolt systems.....

there is also a correct technique for installing BKL dovetail rings.....

I ended up going for the BKL-263 double strap rings.

@HYspd - please can you tell me the correct method you refer to?

i read here on GTA, so no claim to me for it...

bkl dovetail clamps have an extra threaded hole ....this is why...

with clamp in your hand, not mounted, tighten the clamping screw until the clamp "clicks"....yep they actually do click....at this point they will be crimped some what closed, too closed to fit in the dovetail.....take the clamping screw out thread it into that "extra" threaded hole and use it to slightly spread the clamp open until the clamp can just barely slide into the dovetail......all of my dovetail mount airgun have the space to slide the clamps on from at least one end of the dovetail grooves so that is aw far as I have had to spread the clamps myself, not sure if that covers every airgun out there though....when the clamp is where you want it remove the screw from the extra threaded hole....

when i do it that way, the clamp is already firmly locked in place just by the spring back of the aluminum...

finish the scope mounting as you would with other clamp types....

with BKLs mounted like this and clamping screws tightened, i will pickup the airgun by the scope with both hands and holding it over a bed, again just holding the scope, swing the airgun from over my head down at the bed and then yank back up as hard as i could trying to pull scope off using the airguns weight and momentum as the force trying to seperate them (i can get other dovetail mounts to come off doing this).....even compared to clamps that don't let go doing this, the BKLs feel like they are welded on....that it ain't gonna move unless it gets torn off no more hassles, is why i have spend $50 and a scope mount for a free and partialy trashed airgun....

I just followed those instructions & can confirm it works a treat; this way, there is no need to tighten the allen bolts down hard, therefore not putting major strain on the threads.

I nipped up the bolts as hard as a could with the long end of an allen key, and these aren't going to move.

The threads won't deform this way, as I've not even had to use leverage & the short end of the allen key.

Many thanks for this useful information.

even with that technique i still ise bkl 6 bolt mounts on piston power plants....had so much trouble with the airgun in avatar pic in the past that i go straight to the maximum....
