I've been thinking about a Cometa 220 Compact in .177 and/or a 400 Compact or Fusion in .25
I'd love to hear some impressions and opinions from experienced owners.
I'm especially curious if the Compact silencers and Fusion shrouds are made of plastic or metal, and if the Fusion shrouds are very effective at noise reduction.
Thank you!

Yep Dan I have had both the 220 and 400 compacts with the cans! yes the cans work, but I had to change the baffle material in my 400 .22cal to make it quieter, the OEM baffles are just hair curlers and a foam tube around them, The 220 triggers are pot metal very cheaply made, I did some serious mods to my 220 trigger and it eventually wore itself away to where the gun was unsafe and unusable! I gave the gun to my Brother he purchased another trigger unit from Chambers and they sent him the wrong 1! he waited to long to try and reassemble the gun then found out they sent him the wrong trigger unit! The 220 trigger are very crudely made! and that's a shame because other then that its a nice rifle! MY 400 Star Compact is the last of the 6 Cometa rifles I have, I bought it new in 2011, I did not shoot it much then, I sold it to my brother, he had the rifle until about 2yrs ago, I bought it back from him, I was disappointed! The rifle would not hold a consistent group with any pellet I tried! So I removed the can! Which is not an easy task! the can is spline fit to the barrel, I had to heat it up and use a hammer and a block of wood to remove it! The barrel had the worst crown I have seen on a factory gun!!!! So I sent the barrel to WHITEFANG, had him nip off the end and re crown it! That fixed the problem! I completely tuned the rifle again with all new seals and a spring from ARH, IMO the gun has to much power for its weight! Very hard to shoot, I opened the gun back up and cut 4 coils off the spring, I have not chronied it! but it is very docile now I'd guess around 650fps, but it shoots the Crosman Pointed Hunting Pellets 1 hole accurate @23yds!!!! The trigger is pretty decent in this gun, better then a T05 Diana trigger out of the box, I have worked on mine and it is sweet! This rifle has tuned into a very good shooter but it took a lot of work to get it there! IMO if want a 25cal rifle in this power class buy an HW95 and be done with it! The Cometa in .25 is going to shoot the same velocity as the HW in .25cal and u going to get 10x better rifle with the HW and parts are easier to get as well! JMO ;)

Thanks for the info, Mark.
Was the Cometa 220 can made of plastic or metal?

They are aluminum I believe not plastic or steel! The 220 I had was along time ago! 9 or 10yrs ago so maybe Cometa has done some improvements? Dunno! I have also been looking at them again the 220 compact, u can get 1 shipped here from Spain for under $200 dollars, I think if you can get past the trigger or it breaks in better then mine did that would be an awesome little rifle! Mine was very accurate with the 8.44gn JSB's, if the trigger in mine had not gone belly up I would still have that rifle! like I said I have seriously considered buying another 1! mine shot the 8.44's @780fps ;D

With all due respect, I'll have to call the above a little hyperbolic. 10 times better rifle? Come on. Cometa 400s (unlike 220s) are highly regarded airguns, especially for the price. I have one, and it is excellent. Great trigger, high-quality barrel, precisely made and finished, easy to cock and carry, accurate. Also, shoots somewhat higher in .25 cal than the 95, especially with the 28 J spring option. Parts are way cheaper than with the Weihrauchs, and available.
I also own a HW95L, and in terms of pure functionality, there is little difference between these two rifles. Not so in price. There are duds in every make, Weihrauch included.

I agree the 400 is a good rifle, the first rifle I owned was a very good rifle in .22cal IMO I think COMETA got caught up in the craze that the MANOU BRO's got started in the U.S. and tried to keep up with the demand for sales and their quality slipped a little on some guns, I watched a few video's on UTUBE around that time frame, and even the guns sold over in the U.K. suffered with accuracy issues, Mine is a tack driver after I had it fixed with the crown issues, IMO during the time frame when these guns I purchased these rifles, were being offered Cometa, being a very small business could not keep up with the supply and demand and quality suffered in some areas of these rifles, but since then after all the demand Cometa has tightened up their QC again! ;D
