Title: Inexpensive Scope For 10 Meters
Post by: RickHem on June 04, 2020, 10:51:20 AM
I had been using my QB78 for some of the matches here on GTA, and using an inexpensive Gamo 4x scope on that rifle.  Unfortunately that will not hold zero to my satisfaction.  At first I just thought that my hold was not having a good day, but with all the holes appearing in the same quadrant on the target, I tried shooting with additional support, and found that it wasn't all me.

Another problem with the "inexpensive" scopes is that adjustments are a bit of a &^^& shoot.  Move a couple clicks, nothing.....a couple more, still nothing.....one more click and I'm over to the other side.  I can deal with that frustration getting it set up because I don't touch it after that initial set-up, but when it doesn't hold zero, the frustration multiplies.

So with the purpose being just having a clear target image at a distance of 10 meters, and needing the scope to stay zeroed (even if it doesn't have positive, tactile clicks) after initial set-up, is there a scope that anyone has first hand experience with that works well for this?  None of my other scopes will focus down to that close, and I'd ideally like to keep this relatively inexpensive (sub $50 if possible), and any magnification from 4X and up should be good.  So what have you found to work for you?

Hammers gets talked up a bit.  Look at there magnum packaged with a mount and scope  like 50-76 bucks depending on the mm. The importer has a Yahoo shop site and he claims in a email reply of it if it ever fails just send it back for replacement .

Being only 10M you don't need much magnification a fixed power 4X32 should be fine. You WILL want one with Adjustable Objective
Reason being most standard 4X32 rifle scopes are set to 100 yards, Some for .22 RF are 50. But you are wanting to focus to 10 So you will want a
4x32 AO.
Good news is your QB78 is Co2 and doesn't have the scope killing recoil of a Springer. So you don't NEED one that is "Airgun Rated", but they are a bit more robust.
I am not a "Scope Snob" by any means, but I can not stand a scope that isn't clear or doesn't hold zero. I have CP, Hammers, Simmons, BSA, Sterling, even Hawke brands.... One of the nicest scopes I have is a Rex I got from FlyingDragon with my XS60-C. Great CLEAR glass, nice thin reticle, and very nice turrets.  Although mine is a 4-12X40 AO, they make a 4x32 AO. http://rexoptics.com/html/RX2111.html (http://rexoptics.com/html/RX2111.html)

For a while Mike had a great price on that scope. Now I see it is $60.... still a good price for what you get.

I would CALL Mike M., tell him you are a Member of GTA and found out about FD here. Ask him about it for your application and see if he will help you on the cost. Worth a try and I honestly believe you will be VERY happy.

 I found this testimonial... https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=47930.0 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=47930.0)

Thanks for the replies guys.
I looked into a few of the suggestions made and decided to go with the fixed 4X32 AO Rex scope.  Mike from Flying Dragon was a good help on the phone and verified that the scope would in fact focus down to the 10 meters I want it to. Mike suggested I go to his web site and place the order, which I did.

I'll post a follow-up to this once the scope arrives and I mount it and test it out a little.

Huzzah!
 Good for you!
PLEASE report back. If you are not completely satisfied I will be interested as to why.
PS.... did he give you a price break?
At Dicks Sporting Goods here they go for the double the price Mike is asking. ;)

Leupold VX-Freedom EFR 3 - 9 x 33 Riflescope not exactly cheap but I think it will last longer than a cheap one. It also has a good guarantee - $299.
Hawke Riflescope Vantage IR 2-7x32 Also has a good guarantee - $149.99
Both of these have adjustable objective lenses and although not cheap are worth the price with a good guarantee.

I did mount the Rex scope, then had to switch rings because the bell of the scope prevented adjusting it to where I wanted it for my best eye relief.  Shot with it for a bit and slowly started fine tuning to bring it that last little bit for shooting standing.  Then the rest of life kind of got in the way of things and I haven't shot much with anything for a while now.
I may still swap the rings for another set to allow for a better cheek weld and eye relief with the rifle mounted the way I like it, but that will have to wait for better weather.  It's still crazy cold here in upstate NY, and I'm just moving into a new house, so lots of other priorities going on.
