The process is still evolving, but I think I have got it down pat now.
One "Alpha Tester" has experienced difficulty in marrying the old 880 seal spring to the new style seal lip.
As I said, the old spring was about 0.40" smaller in the I.D.
Daisy does not sell the current spring as a separate item.
But, the new spring wouldn't nest properly into the recess in the back of the O-ring back up washer in the old style seal.
So, 2 things have happened:
1. I have found a suitable spring; large enough to fit over the inner lip of the new style seal.
2. I have machined 2 styles of O-ring back up washer;
One with a male shoulder to locate the O-ring, and a female pocket on the reverse side into which the spring nests, ala
the original plastic part.
The second washer has a shoulder on BOTH sides: one to fit the O-ring and one to fit the spring.(Unfortunately they
need to be different diameters....)
So, here are some pics of the bits and pieces.
Also shown and demonstrates is my assembly "tool" which makes the assembly of these old guns really simple.
One of these will be included with every kit.
To assemble, insert the tool into the front of the pump frame. The grooves along the edges permit the top of the tool to raise up in order to stop at the rear edge of the opening.
Then, assemble the pump tube and the seal components into the frame from the rear.
Install the valve body, barrel into the rear of the pump frame and pump tube.
Place the whole shebang upright on the edge of your work table, with the end of the tool on the table top and the barrel hanging over the side.
Press down on the rear of the valve body/trigger assy til the hole for the cross pin lines up.
Insert the cross pin
Remove the tool...............
SIMPLE !!!!
PLEASE....PARDON THE PHOTOS........I.m no Ansel Adams...........

This kit, along with all O-rings, seal, wiper ring and plastic back-up washer for the oil wiper and the assembly tool will be offered at a right reasonable price. WAY less than the original style kit on the "bay."
This kit will not only reseal your old 880's, but it will "future proof" them so that, should they ever need resealing again,
you will be able to do it with a $1.00 seal kit from Daisy instead of the $35.00 kit from the "bey" sellers, if it is even available in the future.....
Only problem at present is that Daisy does not have the seal kits available due to virus-related supply chain problems.
I have all the necessary seals and O-rings, just gotta sort out the oil wiper.
Plus, I'm still working on a sub for their "elastomer spring" which Daisy "discontinued" as a separate part.
They will insist you purchase the pump piston assembly complete, which will work
in the old 880"s, but not quite properly...........
-
Nice Ron, very nice indeed!
-
FWIW, this seal assy would also replace the original v.1 style in the 880's with the steel pump tube.....
-
This is an exciting development as there's a lot of older 880s that just need a reseal to be up and running again!
-
PM sent.
-
I like it ! I know I have 5 or 6 880/881’s sitting around that just need a kit to get back in action.
-
Kinda looks like I might hafta get busy.....
Polyurethane foam and punches on the way to make wipers, and test bumpers also.
Might come up with Daisy workarounds yet......
-
I've got a couple of parts guns knocking around. Need to get them together and see what all they lack to make one out of two, plus a seal kit and whatever else they are lacking.
-
Keep us posted. I also have an older model that needs reseal.
-
The foam arrived and it is way lighter than the Daisy part.
It may work, but dunno if it would hold up.
Gotta find something denser.
The "elastomer spring" replacement looks much more serviceable.
A tad smaller on OD, but fits and compresses with about the same amount of force required by the original.
Still trying to work thru anomalies encountered by a couple of "Alpha testers."
I'll post when I get them sorted out.
Stay tuned !!

Daisy 169909-000 seal kits for current 880 and old 880 available again, so the kits will have OEM foam oil ring.
I also add the small O-ring for the exhaust valve poppet stem, and a nylon back up washer for the oil wiper.

I have a old 880.
Metal receiver, but plastic pump arm.
It pumps, and holds air, but I would like to reseal it.
It also needs a bolt probe. The plastic one is broken off about a 1/4 inch from the end.
So put me on the list.
Any way to approximate date this one?
I don’t see a serial number anywhere..
Ian..

Cobalt327 is the authority on dates....maybe he'll chime in.
As for the bolt, you will need to find a bolt for the US made guns, as the ones from across the pond have a slightly larger diameter probe, I believe.
Daisy has a list of airgunsmiths who may have them.
JG has then but not cheap.............

There's a "LOT NO." or "REG. NO." stamped into the front barrel shroud, see photo for location. With it, the date will be known.

Is there a source for the compression tube for the old style (metal receiver) 880's? I've got a couple of them at hand (different vintages) and am hoping to get one up and running - but the other needs a compression tube and a few other bits and it, too, would be resurrectable - I think.

Mr. Mark,
I know this is an older thread but I also need help with a production date and Ronno6 says you'r the guru. . . That's good enough for me! ! !
The lot number on the barrel shroud of my 880 is 5F 09757. There is finish peeling and surface rust in this area but I'm pretty sure those are thr digits.
Thanks in advance for any help or info you can give me. . .

The old style 880 seal conversion kit is a mature design now, having sold several hundred without a single unhappy customer...
Any y'all who indicated they have guns in need, send me a pm and let's get 'em shootin' again!

I apologize for the late reply, I just now saw the post. "5F" means the date of your 880 is June 1985. The "09757" is the production sequence for the month.
If you see this, if you could, let me know whether your gun has a narrow or wide loading port. The photo shows the difference.
TIA, Mark

Mr. Mark,
Thanks for getting back to me about the 880 serial number/lot code. I did a bit of digging and came up with the same date! It appears that my rifle has the wide loading port, which I approximate to be between 11/32 and 3/8 of an inch with my crude measurement method.
I noticed that I am lacking the safety warning cast in raised letters above the bolt lever. If you would like any pictures or additional info about markings on the receiver, barrel shroud or stock, please let me know, I will be happy to help! ! !
The page is not allowing me to attach a picture but I will try to DM you from a computer instead of my phone, that might be my glitch. . .
Thanks again for your response! ! !
-
Thanks, Oscar! That gun is my favorite 880. The group of features it has was only used for a year. The wide loading port that's open on both sides is at the top of my list of 'likes', along with no warnings cast into either side of the receiver. They do have the early cup seal, but ronno-6's seal conversion makes that moot. So good buy, and I'll take you up on your offer if there's anything I'd like to add to the data base.
Take care, Mark

Perfect!
-
The "other" ebay seller is now offering his OEM style lit for OVER $66.00 shipped..........
AND, it does NOT include the elastomer spring of other tidbits included in my kit.
Not much of a choice................
-
As of this morn, he reduced his price back to the $31.00 + shipping...
BUT.......................
Before he did, someone actually purchased one at the $62.00 + shipping price!!!!!
HEAD SLAP !!!!! DOH............................
-
very nice!
-
Personly would like to thank Ron. He recently help me with his rebuild my 1975 Daisy 880 and I couldn't be happier.
-
Glad to help........ ;)
-
I'm here to give respect to Ron.
Helped me rehab my 1991 880 into perfect working order. I ordered his modified seal kit, trigger mod, and new brass bolt from him,
Have some more projects on the horizon and I feel lucky there's such an incredible resource for those of us bringing these guns back to life.
Thanks Ron,
Guy
-
Mr. Guy,
Thank you for the kind words.
I am glad to help out, and hopefully save you a few $$$ in the process....
I know the bolt ain't cheap, but it IS an upgrade.......

There honestly can't be enough gratitude shown to all the 880 people who work hard keeping our airguns up and running.
Thank you, all of you!
