Title: The Daisy 880 does the job.
Post by: birdmove on April 20, 2020, 03:11:31 PM
The rats like to go into the chicken coop I built at night to raid the feeder. I sometimes go out after dark, open the door to the coop, and sit in a chair and wait for them to appear. Last night I went out with my well worn Daisy 880.it has an older Leapers 4x32 AO scope with a red led flashlight mounted to the cope. I had zero'd it with the Crosman Premier Super Match 7.9 grain wadcutters. Eight pumps is accurate and seems to hit with authority. I built the coop upon those thin, flat cinderblocks between the 2x6 inch base boards and the ground to keep the wood ffom being on wet grass or dirt.  Some rats dug out abit under xome of these blocks, and enter there. I saw the red glowing eyes, and he was moving around under the block. I took the shot. I thought I'd hit him from the movemdnts he made after the shot, but I didn't sehim in the dark.
Well, I found him this morning in the light. That Crosman pellet went clean through the rat in the side of his body, and was devastating.
Eight pumps and the 880 is both accurate and very quiet. I know there are more rats. It took a good 20 minutes before this rat appeared. If its not raining tonight, a-ratting I will go again.

The 880 may be the best value in airguns. It was the first airgun I had as a boy and the first gun I bought to get back into the hobby at 35 years old. I had forgotten the model until the guys on here recommended it for a first gun. I've killed plenty of starlings with mine out to 30 yards. If you don't have one, I'd get Geo's LDC for your gun. It's the best improvement other than a scope.

I almost want a rat infestation at this point, seeing how much fun you guys have hunting them.  :D

Nailed one more last night. Same gun etc. The 880 keeps rolling along.

Nice shooting! I use my 880 for up to red squirrels, which in NY are unprotected.

Wanted to go out last night about 8:00, but the rains changed my mind.  Will try again tonight.

After nailing one a night (small time, I know) I still say the CPSM pellets I mentioned above are devastating on rats wil 8 pumps.

My first air rifle was the 880. I didn't realize how good it was until I started shooting pellets other than the original Crosman "Super Pells" through it.

My 880 shoots Barracuda Greens really well. I've also had good results with RWS superdomes , super points, and Crosman premier ultra magnums.
