Ever since I got back into AG, about 4 years ago, I have only seen starling once around my property. I'd actually had crosshairs on it, at 30yd, but I choked and miss the shot. This was about 2 years ago.
Well, today was I got a chance at redemption. While working on a task in the garage, I noticed some black birds out in my front lawn. Looks like yellow beaks, but I had to grab my 10x Leupold binoculars to confirm. Starling!
I went and grabbed the Urban and snuck into the shed, for a better and inconspicuous shot.
The yellow beak had it's back to my position. I went down onto one knee, and rested the Urban onto my large Black Hole archery target foam block. The yellow beak, still with it's back to me, had it's head turned to the side, which I believe was it's way of keeping an eye on me. At about 25yd away, it probably get safe at that distance from me. Well, this time, it was dead wrong! The CPUM connected and a pluff of feathers drifted up into the wind, as the yellow beak fell forward into the grass.
Finally, got my first starling! I looked around for it's buddies, but they were no longer around.
The gray spot under it's crop is the exit wound.

Good shooting, hopefully the rest will come back...

Nice shot Dinh! Glad you finally got one.
-
congratulations! they say you never forget your first, but why take that chance, get it mounted! ;D
seriously though, use it as a decoy. i keep several in the garage freezer, (away from the wife) and set them out using wire coat hangers to place them. they can be used several times before getting raggety.
i get most of mine when they come in with the grackles.

Nice shot Dinh! I'm sure his buddies will be back looking for him, just be ready when they do! ;D

My wife would so frigging freak out, if she ever find a whole feathered bird in our refrigerator freezer. LOL

I was actually thinking something more along the line of: "Yea, I see you, but by the time you get here, I'll be long.........."

Dinh, excellent shot and glad you got redemption! I’ve only seen one starling on my property and was only there for a few seconds, they are rare around here near the beach. But, I do get to pest them at a friends place up in the mountains. Hope you get more!
-
They are called Kalansiyang or Galansiyang in the Philippines.
I have taken down many of them with my airguns and blowguns when I was still there.
I just fed them to stray cats ;D

Put it in a zip-lok and wrap it in foil. Tell her it's a baked potato you're saving. ;)

Well, that's exactly what I did today!
Constructed of repurposed lumber from my kids' old jungle gym I'd dragged into the wooded area of our property, several years ago. I knew the lumber would come in handy one day, for a project or 2. It was a fun project! Think I'll make a couple more.

When I built, my tilting can traps for Starlings/Hosp etc,
I had a lot better luck drawing them in, when I painted the inside of the house flat Black,
that increased my catches a lot.............. ;).
Then I found air guns and they increased my catches 100%..................LOL ;)

Thanks, Don, I'll paint the inside black.
I hardly see starling strong my place. I'm hoping this will draw them in :D

When you place your "Target Houses", try to find the most open area wise,
Starlings don't like to be crowded and like open space around their spots.
Thanks,
Don
