Post by: ronbeaux on August 27, 2011, 12:43:19 PM
It a .308 and it weighs 128 gr. I was testing the DAQ this morning and this one groups the best.

Looks swaged.....probably going to be really tough to find.  Maybe start looking for people with a Corbin swaging set-up?

Got any groups to share, to show how it did compared to other designs?  How far out are you shooting it?

I'm still trying to find one that will group at 25!!! The 76 grain ones spray all over the page.
The 115 grain ones held a 1.5" group at 25.

not worthy!

The 128 grain hit dead center but I didn't figure on the DAQ liking that weight pellet so all I had was one with me. It is one solid hunk of lead and not a swag.

Going back again in the morning when it is cool to run some through it and see how they group. It felt and sounded better when shooting the higher weight slug. Kind of like it like them.??

We will see.

How many designs have you tried so far?

Not swaged?  So you found lines on the nose where the two mold halves met?  Signs of a sprue plate cut on the base?  I would have bet money that was a swaged slug.....they are often "solid" as well as hollow based.

Try .309 as the size for the other slugs.  It's not just weight to get the right slug.

A .308 sized cast lead bullets that would be used reloading 30 M1 Carbine cartridge between 115 & 130 Grain would be what the DAQ sight recommends for the .308 Exile Rifle for Correct Accuracy and Power .

Exactly. But I have looked everywhere and cannot find this one. Is this a mold I can get???

Pretty sure that's a swaged slug from the looks of the design, which means there is no mold.

If you cannot find a hint of a line on either side of the nose (I say nose in case it was sized), nor a mark on the base from the sprue being cut, the slug is swaged.

Yes sir. My bad. I was thinking sabot when you said swag. I found an old write up from 2002 for a 308 using swag slugs made by Pelletman.

How do you make a swag?

Never mind. I think you meant I would never like the trigger as is.

Ron . You might need to get use to the trigger . But the swagged bullet is not the best choice for AR . They are hard to find and expensive to buy and or swag . If my memory is correct BHD bought a CH press about 2 years ago . He may have gotten some 308 dies with it . Get a hold of him if you really think that is the only bullet that will work . I think as mentioned before .That you need to find the proper size bullet for the barrel . I believe Dennis has said that his barrels are a wide land and a narrow groove . This can make bullet size a more critical issue than a standard type barrel . Not saying anything is bad about the rifle or you . But it can take several tries to find the right combo . If I were you and did not fill that it was the user at fault . I would get a barrel measurement as well as retrieve some of the shot bullets and see what is really going on .Marvin

10-4

I am getting a sample pack of slugs to find the right one. No interest in the swag per say, it's just that I have these on hand and want to hunt next weekend. These shoot the best but not what I'm used to in groups. If one comes out at 30 yards I feel comfortable enough to shoot it, any farther than that I will let it walk until I find the right load and stretch out my range.

Different nose profiles will react differently when seating into the rifling, so keep that in mind as well.

You guys are making it hard for me. These big azz bullets are already freaking me out being the from the .177 land. Now I have to worry about the nose profile ???

Kidding guys. You are a big help to a total newbie with big bores.

I was at the pipeline right of way range today and a guy and his son stopped to ask "What the heck is that!!"

I got to show it off a little.

Gimme time, I'll get it right with your help!
