Title: Making of a Swing Gate "Single Shot Loader "
Post by: Motorhead on March 31, 2020, 06:48:47 PM
This was made for my on going JSAR Raptor Mini R&D gun. Being we're dealing with .20 caliber and no Magazines exist for it in that caliber were left to single load. * Which actually in FT competition is preferred anyway.

We started with a custom made roll in tray, but due to the guns mag slot being so narrow and having big thumbs it was kinda tricky to get a pellet to roll down and land in loading trough consistently pointed the right direction  :P  * 1st picture

From there I took an idea I have seen come from ROWAN engineering in the UK being a swing gate type loader.  Drew up a few quick basic ideas and simply went over on the milling machine with some acetal block and stared figuring it out as i went ... @ 3 hours later we have a functioning loader  ;D

Having to do it over again I see an issue with the radius gate pivots on and bore center line needing to be widened. this would have the loader sicking out the right side of receiver farther so the pivot point would have the hole to load pellet into come out away from receiver further .. o'well still works as it should.  Maybe another day ???

The Hatsan Proxima undercover gas ram repeater needs something like that.

Is it (lightly) spring loaded to pop open when you withdraw the bolt?.... It should be possible to hold it in with your index finger while closing the bolt, no?....

Light friction fit on the swinging, no spring being manual open and close.
Did however this AM after dwelling on it last night ... placed a .150" delrin ball down a hole to intersect middle of the area pellet sits to just slightly catch it and keep it centered while closing.
The balls hole was drilled at .120" first then the .155" drilled hole stopping just shy of breaking threw. this created a small ledge for the ball to sit on with some of the balls radius falling within the .210" bore the pellet loads into. Behind the ball a Very light spring and a 10-32 grub screw to hold it all in.  Pellet now when loading has this very faint bump as it passes by the little ball.  Pressure from the ball is so soft that the pellet is in no way deformed passing over it.   NOW I REALLY LIKE this loader !!

Great idea Scott! Nice looking SSL.  Cool ideas come out of necessity and a good machinist makes dreams come true.
