Title: More tailgating.
Post by: Wade.S on August 23, 2010, 07:07:51 PM
Doug T. and myself had another good evening of vermin management. We shot 52 pigeons and 4 starling, 3 of the pigeons that we saw go down we could not find and 4 starlings were in thick brush that we did not even try to get. Hope you enjoy the photo.

WadeS and I have a virtual library of farmers and ranchers that have given us permission to hunt most any small critter with air rifles.  I keep a map of the location with a picture of the site and their name/phone # on the pic.  When we feel like ground squirrel shooting we call up one of a number of people and arrange it.  When we feel like an afternoon or weekend pigeon hunt we call some other folks.  If we just feel like shooting all day at most anything we call up The Farm.

This time Wade had his new .22 Marauder/Leapers 3-12 combo and the .22 Mendoza while I had my .22 850 and the .22 TF-89.  We hit up two sets of grain bins.  The first set is 8 large bins surrounded by barns and old machinery.  Lots of pigeons and starlings.  We first opened up all the bin doors and flushed out the pigeons.  We then poked along the corrals/barns and shot 4 starlings.  We went back to the barns and shot some off the top that had returned to roost.  After that we opened the door and used our springers and a flashlight to shoot the ones that didn't want to fly out.

We then drove a few miles away to the double bins.  There must have been 200 in one bin.  When we opened the door to flush them out it was mayhem in there.  We shot some that wouldn't leave with our springers then grabbed the PCP's and sat on the adjacent hilside about 30 yards away and greased another dozen or so.  Lots of good shooting.
