The gray laminate HW30S in .22 has caught my attention. Now I can’t shake the desire to order it and try it out. I already gave my previous 30 in .177 to my 10 year old son. I liked it fine but it didn’t get shot all that much. I felt guilty that I didn’t shoot it very often so I offered to my son who gladly accepted it.
Since I’m riding the fence on trying the 30 in .22, I’m curious what you folks think about it.
Anybody have one in .22? How is it? What pellets does it like? (H&N FTTs?)
It will be a backyard plinker. I’ll probably keep it with the factory iron sights. I’m thinking that it would make a great can roller.
-
Yes go for it. Buy it. I would go for .177 but there will be nothing wrong with .22.
I say this because I have just been lent an HW30S in .177. It has a barrel lock lever and a thumb hole stock. Produced about 1978.
The rifle is worn because it has seen a lot of use. Still puts pellet on pellet at 20 metres and is a joy to shoot.
Excellent record trigger and easy to cock especially with a 20 inch barrel.
-
Sure, I am considering to buy one as well.
At the end of the day, there are loads of guys out there shooting the Crossman 2240 or the 1322 with the same power output and everybody looooves them !
-
Ask your son which one he wants ;D. Since you did not shoot the .177 much why would you shoot the .22 much?

Have had the exact same thought. You do a lot of pumping with a 1322 with a long barrel to get to HW30 power in the same caliber. And enough guys seems to shoot small game at sort range with them too.
I just ordered an R7 in .177, as I didn't want a .20, but if it was available in .22 it would have been a hard choice. Years ago I had a 30 in .22 - never should have sold it! And I'm not even sure if my next gun will be an HW50 or a 30 in .22.

Sounds like that might be an HW35 Lochschaft.
I handled an HW30 gray laminate and it seemed like an excellent quality rifle. I'd be happy to own one someday.

JMO I don't think a 30 in .22cal would be very efficient, very low power! If u want something like that why don't u buy a B3 rifle for about $60 bucks, I think a 50 in.22cal would be a better choice in .22cal! the 30 is good in a .177cal! :P
-
Not seeing where much power or efficiency is gonna be needed since the intended use is to roll cans and random plinking in the yard with his son. Just get one, Brett...you know you wanna....lol
-

That is my exact thought. If I didn’t shoot the first one much, why would I shoot the second one anymore than the first? That’s my main issue.

I guess I’m a little like you Mark? I like HWs and I prefer quality over less. I gave my HW50S away too. Neither of them did anything better than my 95/R9s. I think that why .22 in the 30 seems like I would be “different” from what I have already had. Just trying to think through this since I’m having a hard time shaking the thought of getting one.

How fast do they shoot in .22 with a typical 14 grn pellet?
-
How fast do they shoot in .22 with a typical 14 grn pellet?
I have NO idea! In .177 they are in the high 500 to low 600s. I'm only guessing that it would be mid to high 400s in .22. Hopefully someone will pipe up that has or had one and can give some more insight.
Man, I am really struggling with this one. I really want to give it a try BUT I don’t want to drop the money and find that it’s nothing more than the .177 I had. I already have open sighted plinkers (HW95 and HW77) but the low power and larger pellet could be real fun knocking cans and the like around. Wish I could get a money back guarantee. If I’m not 100% satisfied I can return it, no questions asked, for a full refund. Oh well, the battle goes on.... ha ha!

Hey Brett,
My 2 cents says .22 caliber should be used in HW80/R1's or PCP's only :P.
Matter of fact my HW80/R1's are currently at .20 caliber.
I think .22 is best for folks wanting to hunt, not plinking/target shooters.
I have (2) HW30s in .177 caliber that shoot about 600/650 fps with AA falcons 7.33 gr.
I tried a .22 barrel on the gun and thought the gun was under powered.
Why don't you buy my (extra) .22 HW30 barrel for $60 and give it a try - it's almost new ;)
I've found that I shoot my HW30's and HW80/R1's the least out of all my Weihrauch springers.
The problem I have ... the guns are perfect opposites: Too much or Too little power/weight/size ::)
-
I would agree some what with u Kirk, my 22cal rifles and 20cal rifles are more of my hunting guns not target shooters, but they are accurate enough for target shooting! in the bigger power plants, My strong position on advocating the .22cal or the .20cal is based off of long range hunting with a spring gun, at ranges 75yds and further, With a 460mag 48, R1's {etc} The .22cal usually gets the job done with a well placed shot, I've had some failures with the .20cals performing on the same rodents, I use these rifles for! GROUND HOGS! I will attribute these failures due to the softer lead which JSB and H&N pellets are made from, But good ole Crosman .22cal pellets preform outstandingly for the job, Now that that's out of the way, my other philosophy on using the .22cal in the HW50 95 35's {etc} is I also use them to shoot birds out at distances to 60yds or so, pigeons and crows will shrug off a lighter .177cal and fly off! even at 30yds! my 1st HW95 shot a 14.3gn CPHP at 640fps, I have shot many pigeons at 60yds and crows with this rifle, 1 shot killer with this rifle! My experience with shooting these lower powered air guns has taught me what works best as a hunting caliber in a spring gun hunting rifle for me! the .20cal works on everything accept G-HOGS at distance, if u mainly shoot paper the .177cal is all u need! if u want something that has a tic more knock down power get a .22cal or .20cal if u going to shoot small game past 40 or 50yds! That's not to say a .177cal won't do the job at hand, it all depends on the game ur shooting how hard the pellet is and shot placement and distance! ;)

I'm not spendin it, you are...lol. My only thought is what you said intended use was going to be which was rolling cans and general plinking. It's apparently something everyone else missed or ignored cuz they keep mentioning hunting, hunting, hunting and all you said was wanting the oddball caliber and that laminated stock for a random plinker/can roller.
-
Talking about the difference between .177 and .22. The 1978 HW35S puts out 560 fps That is about the factory specified output.
I also have CO2 CR600w in .22. It is rated at 500 fps although I have never measured it. Both guns shoot well at 25 yds and both are excellent back yard plinkers. The difference between the .177 and the .22 is that the impact of the .22 is louder. So not much to worry about.

Plug 7 fpe into a trajectory calculator. Use 14 grains for the .22 pellet. The .22 pellet will drop like a rock. Now if you know your backyard ranges that might be interesting......

Steve, plinking is this it doesn't require a .22cal in an HW30 in .22cal! it doesn't make since to me! HW barrels in .22cal require a pellet a lot of times that are not store bought pellets, usually H&N or JSB's, for best accuracy, once in a while they may shoot cheap pellets like the Crosman's, I have a few HW guns in .22cal that will not shoot Cheap pellets, the .177cal HW barrels tend to shoot the cheap Crosman pellets, 7.9gn as accurate as the more expensive H&N or JSB's, my post was to educate people on a long term usage of such rifles from HW, if u want something like that go for it! just don't be disappointed when it doesn't work for you as u expect it to? if u understand its limitations and that's all u expect? and u have the money to buy a different gun because the 1 u purchased just doesn't do it all? do what u will! my information is to give my experience from my usage and a response to another poster whom I have a long term friendship with who has a different opinion of mine over the bore size which were prefer over another 1!!! It may not be ur answer or u may have a differing opinion? But from what I am seeing from some of ur latest posts on other threads u acting like a troll!!! someone who only wants to start SPIT! :o

Brett,
A 7 fpe springer shoots a 14.3 grain pellet at 500 fps. The pellet drop from 15 yards to 20 yards is about an 1 1/2".
From 20 to 25 yards, almost 2 inch drop. Hope you are shooting at TALL cans. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

Wow - those are big drops! Glad I ordered my R7 in .177 now!!! It would require very accurate range estimation to connect on target.
What does drop with a .177 at this power level look like at the same ranges?
-
Wow! A 2 inch drop at just 5 yards is more than I thought it would be.But if your just shooting in your backyard at set distances you can just sight in for that.
-
I just told my wife that I wasn't going to get the rifle. I have too many as it is. Now with all of the differing ideas out there it makes me want one even more so just so I will know.
Still, if anyone else had any experience with a 30 in.22, I would love to hear about it.
This is for a pure fun backyard plinker. I already know that .22 HW barrels like the H&N FTT pellets. That's exactly what my R9 likes so I already have hordes of these in 5.53/54 head sizes for when the zombie apocalypse hits. Ha ha! Also the H&N pellets are less expensive than the JSBs that I use along with the many other varieties that I have. I usually make $100+ pellet orders couple times a year depending on how much I'm shooting what type.
I appreciate ALL of your guys inputs here. That is what I love about these forums. I'm just glad that I'm not new to the airgun game at this point. Airgun shooting has been a top hobby for me ever since I started in 2007. Sometimes I wish that I could get interested in something else just for a change. Ha ha!
I'll keep you posted on what I decide.

I have owned two HW30s air rifles in .22 caliber for 15ish years.
The full power one is stock and scoped and shoots 14.3 grain pellets 520ish fps for almost 8.6 foot pounds of energy. It is VERY accurate with a wide variety of pellets.
It is currently sighted in with Gamo Magnum and Master Point pointed pellets, and is bug shooting accurate at 20 yards. (I purchased 92 tins of these pellets some years ago for a low price; this batch is very well made).
My de-tuned hw30s in .22 has a Canadian spring installed (made to be 500 fps or less in .177), and has a Mendoza peep sight. It shoots 14.3 grain pellets at just over 400 fps. It is also not very pellet picky, and is currently sighted in with Daisy wadcutters. It plinks small objects well out to 35 yards, and has taken lots of sparrow and a few starlings by the house where a more powerful gun might damage something.
The HW30s is easy going and delightful in .22. I am as likely to shoot the full power one as I am to shoot one in .177. By the way, I have a R7 barrel in .20 caliber....it sits on a shelf; I didn't like it much.

For just a back yard plinker, My Diana LP-8 Magnum is my favorite airgun. I just love it. :-* Shooting a rifle accurately is easy a pistol, not so much... ;)
Shoots about the same speed as a HW 30, just a 1000 times more fun. Wyoman here has scoped his. I shoot mine with the glo sights. I hunt small game 15-20 yards max. Plink at 40. Think about it! 8)

Thanks for the heads up Kirk! If I had an extra 30 lying around I would do just that. I don’t and I don’t want to swap it on Nates’s 30. The debate continues...

Not quite sure how it's trolling or trying to start SPIT as you put it to take Brett's original post and say what little I have so far and for what it's worth, the man has been a long time friend here from back in the days when GTA had a real chatroom and we talked almost daily.
My 2 whole posts did nothing more than say Hey, if it's what you have an itch to try, then get one. He did ask for opinions, all I did was give him mine (just like every other poster has btw) based on his original post. I had/have no doubt, considering his long experience with HW/Beeman rifles, he already knows exactly what to expect should he decide to buy one which is something I also took into account when I posted what I did.
I don't come in here to ruffle feathers, just post thoughts, ideas and opinions like everyone else :)

I have a hw30 in 177 and a Winchester 427 (Diana 27) in 22. The HW shoots an 8 grain pellet at about 585 and the JSB 7.2 at 620 ish. The Diana is probably a little slower shooter than the HW, However shoots RWS hobbys at 510. Not the exact comparison requested.
Both are good plinkers and all day shooters, very quiet and accurate. I am not a scope user so limit to about 20 yds and with light ammo both are at point of aim to that range. For tin can shooting they are equil. The 22 hits with a louder smack and knocks a can farther. The 177 will make holes in the can. It's the question of penetration or inpact. When it comes to hunting, it goes without saying, penetration kills. Just my thoughts.
-
I have one in .22 and it’s just plain fun. I shoot it way more than my .177 version.
I can honestly say I’ve had more fun with that gun than any of the many guns I’ve owned over the past 40-plus years. Where it excels is backyard plinking, which is what you’re planning on, right? It simply puts a bigger “smack” on cans, acorns little green army men, candy, etc. Most owners feel the .22 shoots smoother than the .177 version and I agree. Also, the bigger pellets are easier to handle. Mine likes the RWS Hobbys and H&N 14.66 but it’s not pellet-picky at all. Again, if you’re just plinking in your back yard, most good pellets will be just fine.
If you won’t be using it for hunting or long distance shooting, don’t get all wrapped up in FPS and pellet drop.
I have the 1322 as well, and it’s great classic, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the HW30s. I do like my pumpers, but the HW is more fun to sit and shoot for hours, without the tiresome pumping.
BTW, this question has come up before. A search for “HW30s .22” will bring a lot of opinions.
-
I have a 30s in .22 with a williams peep on it.
It doesn't seem pellet fussy and shoots RWS hobbies at 540fps
this gun has a fuller stock than my R7 and fits me better.
MikeV

Agreed it will, a gun with that low power would be best off in a .177cal and pellets would be a lot cheaper to purchase ;D

Exactly my thoughts about a HW30s in .22 !
10yrds fun with a quality springer... A Weihrauch is just way more versatile then only a 25yrds pellet on pellet paper puncher or a great heirloom hunting airgun 8)

Oh No!
I just saw this post!
I'm not even reading (now) what was answered! I have the answer!
.22!
I've got one, and it is my favorite R7 period! I've got the R7 and the HW30 in .177 and still the .22 is definitely the best of the lot.

Not really. It's more accurate off hand than any .177 rifle I have at 25 yards.

You know, I think Brett's main desire for buying the Grey Lami HW30S in .22 caliber was the look of that Lami stock ;D.
That is ... if I know Brett ... a certified stock lover, who's made some nice ones over the years.
One of my biggest (non-functional) beefs about the HW30S is the OEM stock is tasteless :P and not worthy of the rest of the gun. I believe the cost of producing a HW30S isn't that much less (obviously less steel) than producing a HW95 - labor costs are likely very similar. The only way Weihrauch/Krale can sell the gun for $200.15 is if HW has Minelli puts the absolute cheapest stock on it. Now, AOA sells the Grey Lami version for $350 - so your paying $150 for the stock alone ... not really a great bargain (see what the wife says about that?).
PS: Yoda is a Weihrauch shooting professor - aka Si Pittaway of the West. All his responses to questions are based on the idea (he's owned every HW airgun) each model is like a different golf club. He tries to suggest which gun is best for the OP's need w/o emotion or what the OP "thinks he wants".
Matter of fact, I'm looking into a HW57 - is that crazy of what given their track record ::).
-
Yes I'm sending it to you!
We are in shut-down here in IL! Luckily the mail must go through!
-
Kirk is correct, it’s the laminate stock that I like. Brown and black gets boring after a bit.
I have had the 30S and the 50S (still do technically since I gave them to two of my sons that are still at home) and neither of them thrilled me like the 95/R9 platform does. The 95 is just “right” for me. The 30 and 50 sat in the cabinet rarely used. I like both guns (30 &50) but like I said the 95 is a perfect fit for me so I always grab one of those (I have 3).
I’m thinking .22 for the 30 simply for something unique and different than what I already have. Ever shoot reactive targets with a fat slow moving pellet? It’s just fun to watch how much the target moves! I like the idea of a lightweight slow gun for just that very purpose, to slap those targets and make them jump! Ha ha! I’m thrilled just imagining it. 😄
I just wanna say THANKS again to everyone for you thoughts and experiences!
It’s great to be around folks that are passionate about their air rifles. I know that I have my own set of preferences based off of my experiences and I share them on occasion. Not everyone agrees all the time and I, for one, can appreciate that. Variety is the spice of life!

Brett,
If brown and black gets boring, grey is boring!
You want a spiffy stock get one of these:

When I get around to buying one, I'll buy a .22. If I don't care for it. I can rebarrel it

Quite showing off.
Beautiful gun and it shoots as well or better than it looks. ;)

I just have to drag it out when the R7 HW30 posts come up. Can't help myself, and yea it is a serious shooter. Don't ask how serious.
-
Yay (its a fun gun, certainly not the most practical)
I know this is an old thread but I just saw it so here is my opinion so take it with a grain of salt.....
I have a 30's in .177 and .22. I know that the .177 is the perfect fit for this gun but the .22 is a blast with open sights. Keep in mind in by backyard my longest shot is no more than 23 yards. Even with open sights and offhand I have zero problem hitting gatorade caps. Plenty of power for starlings and pigeons within that range as well. As an added bonus it shoots the cheap RWS Hobby pellets better than anything else...
There is just something satisfying with the sound when the slow heavy chunk of lead hits something. That said it is a fun gun for me. If forced to choose between calibers I would go .177 but luckily I have both and enjoy them both.

Shot more .22 pellets through my one and only HW30 in .22. It's still doing its thing. But it really is limited to short range.
-
I have a few examples of the HW30, including a .22. The .22 has different feel when firing and is extremely pleasant, to that the .177s are not just that the .22 feels different. Loading pellets is of course a bit easier.
Out to 20-25 yards they are about equal in accuracy, past that the .177, of course, shoots flatter.
I have had this .22 (Beech Stock) for many years and still shoot the *(&^ out of it. As a matter of fact I was messing with these a few nights ago. :)

What optics reside on top of your HW 30's?

They are Air Force adaptive rear sights.

I have them on a few air rifles. I like diopter/ring type sights.

The "little" HW30S .22 I have I never expected to last and deliver this long. I need to tighten the barrel slightly when I get around to it, but this thing just keeps on going.

Why wouldn’t it last? Mine certainly isn’t gonna shoot itself apart with its “insane power level”.:). ? I did throw a preventative piece of delrin in it.

Yes! The power level is ridiculous yet the performance is outstanding. More so than in .177 to me.

Yeah but I don’t understand why you think it won’t last??? As in why it would mechanically fail. Or were you saying you thought the feeling wouldn’t last.

I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying, but I find the power to be adequate, and it shoots lighter pellets even faster.

I've got a HW30 in 177 & really like it for backyard dossing.
Also considered getting one in 22, but have taken a back seat since hearing about regular "stringing" problems with some HW30s.
Maybe FWBsport is referring to this problem?
-
Look for old reports from Glover. He was knowledgable and preferred the HW 30 in .22.
Since we are being extreme, how about an HW 30 in .25? 8) ;D

Let's cover all the bases and suggest one in .20...lol

For the original stated purpose of backyard plinking a .177 will do just fine. But let's face it we all eventually convince ourselves that we really need the one that catches our attention the most. It doesn't really matter in the end what we need. It is what we want that counts. My 30 is a .177 and it does everything I want a 30 to do.

That's pretty much it!
I like the .22 better and kept it. The .177 went to someone else here.

I would like to add a little something for the "lowly powered HW30s in 22 cal. First off if it has the vortek kit in it its an 8.5ft pound rifle. Low 500s with a 14.3 gr pellet. What can that do in hunting. Well Ive had crosman 1322 pumper with a few slight mods and stock barrel to match that power and Ive had the Crosman 112 bulk fill CO2 pistol shooting 510-520. Shots at crow at 30 yards went fully thru dropping the bird. Bunnies, and squirrels and pigeons out to 25 yards all fell to my 2 air pistols . I also own an R7 in 177 and while i love the gun for its flat accuracy out to 30 yds shots on game are a 50/50 proposition. You can hit right thru them but the damage is very small and they rarely drop where hit. Ive had to chase down far too many for this little caliber. It seems I get that even if the power is 700 or 800 fps . they zip thru the chest hit but the animal takes off. More likely to die but they can stay hidden . Who wants that. So whoever said 22cal is more for hunting is correct. Not to expect anything less on paper at the right yardage but then thats what this challenge was all about- yard work /short range. One other thing, youd better check the trajectory charts again. theres no 1.5 or 2 inch drop anywhere from zero to 25 yds with a 500fps 14.3gr pellet. I get plus or minus 1/4 " from 8yds to 25.

Yikes! A zombie thread!
Since this thread died four years ago I've I've taken a bunch of bunnies with both my .177 and .22. I can't come to any conclusions about hunting/pesting with those calibers other than the .22 makes a good "whack" when it hits critters.
-
I bought my 30 in .22 for targets and linking. Almost all of my rifles are in this caliber cuz it's just much easier for me to deal with in the larger sized pellets.

Plus its nice to only stock one caliber of pellets. It was nice when all my stuff was 177. I only needed to have a few different pellets on hand. Now I need a few in three different calibers. :-\

Well I just received my brand new HW30s in 22cal yesterday. I didnt adjust the sights or clean the barrel. I fired off 15 shots to get it going abit and then started chonying the gun with 5 brands of pellets. After that I fired 5 shot groups open iron sights at 10 m with each. Heres my results (no dieseling, smooth thud shot cycle) a little stiff cocking (breach bolts were a little tight)
JSB 13.4gr- 523fps
JSb 14.3gr- 496fps
JSB 15.8gr- 457fps
H/N FTT 14.6- 480fps
Crosman HP 14.2gr- 500fps
This equates to a 7.8ft/lb gun with 2 brands of pellets. Seems the little princess likes pellets in the 13 - 14.5weight range for most energy/efficiency
As for the 5 shot groups 4 out of the 5 shot inside a dime and the JSB 14.3gr express 5shots inside a 1/4" round hole All groups hitting the bullseye. Not bad out of the box!!!!
-
Yeah, Ron, that's another good point! I've been real happy with .22...takes care of what I need!
-
This is an old thread for sure! but those are decent numbers CV for the 30 in .22cal! I purchased a COMETA 220 compact in .22cal, it's about the same size as the HW30, I'll say these size guns are fun to shoot! they're definitely a yard gun! 25/30yds and it takes care of my starling problem ;D

I just put a new Vortek PG4 "Delrin-lite" kit in a new HW30 .22.
The gun was doing 482 fps with 14.3 CPHP out of the box.
When I installed the Vortek spring kit, I noticed the piston was extremely easy to move in the tube, almost falling under its own weight, but I didn't replace the factory seal because velocity was very consistent. I was surprised that the spring kit gave no increase in velocity despite its firmer cocking effort.
PG4 kit with OEM loose fitting parachute seal 480 fps with 14.3 CPHP.
I then installed the Vortek moly seal and cleaned out factory lube and re-lubed with ARH Moly paste while I was at it.
PG4 kit with Vortek Moly seal 507 fps with 14.3 CPHP.
I'm a little curious about swapping the factory spring back in to test with the Vortek seal, but I don't plan on doing that any time soon.
Another note about this gun is it was shooting over 600fps and accurately with Predator GTO pellets in factory kit, which is pretty neat for such a little gun in .22.
Have fun!

Brett I have a 30 in .22 and have a stainless .22 en route as we speak. I love the .22 cal. I’m a plinker. Don’t mind the looping. The gun is accurate. Would I use on game, not a chance.
Especially in winter with snow, you can follow it with a scope. Dead nuts on every time.
I like the 30 and have a few because as I age the 30 with be far more practical to use. Crow

Right on!
I love my .22 cal 30. It’s the most entertaining air rifle I have. Grab-n-go with pellets and iron sights. Great for rolling cans in the yard. Mine has the “deluxe” stock from AoA.

Wow, so it looks like the factory spring and seal which is producing 7.8ft /lbs and great accuracy may be hard to improve on if i switch out the guts to a Vortek kit? I was thinking of having a full tune on it. So far though i love these little 30s rifles. I have another one i the R7 flavor in 177cal. That one is doing 700fps with a vortek kit in it. My HW50s in 177cal is now sitting more and more on the rack!! One thing I cant over emphasize, a 485-520 fps 22 cal pellet traveling out to 25 yards for me has dropped Crows, Bunnies, Pigeons Squirrels and starlings easily. You just have to keep your stalking skills up and realize the limited working range and your good to go with a very compact ,light ,carry all day, rifle.

Yesterday I shot my Winchester 427 (Diana 27) over a chronograph and thought I would share the results on this old thread. Average was 515.0 feet per second producing 7 ft lbs. With Hobby (11.9 gr). RWS Superpoint (14.5 gr) shot 452.8 ft per second for 6.6 ft lbs. There were higher numbers in both groups but this gives an about average picture.
If I have time today I will run some numbers on a 22 cal El Gamo Expo and a hw 45.
-
I have a few more velocity numbers on for the purpose of comparing of airguns we may be familiar with to the abilities of the HW 30 in 22 cal.
First off I had difficulty using my chronograph with the HW 45 knocking off of the shooting bench several times. The pistol has been tampered with or the readings are bad.
The El Gammo high reading was 448.6 or 6.5 foot lbs with 14.5 grain Superpoint and 503.7 or 6.7 ft lbs with 11.9 gr hobby.
Slavia 622 high reading with hobby was 372.4 or 3.7 Ft lbs.and with Superpoint 347.7 or 3.9 ft lbs.
My experience has been with the Slavia 622 and hobby pellets, sighted in for 10 yards the point of impact begins to drop at 17 yards ,corrected by slight hold change to 20 yards. This was shooting 2 inch spinners.
With the same zero and Velocity of 500 to 515, I had change of impact at 22 or 23 yards. I have not test past a 12 yard zero. I do recall using the Winchester 427 on a close range squirrel and the skull was fractured in pieces and a 22 caliber hobby at 500 ft per second will make a sparrow turn into a cloud of feathers.
-
I also had the Winchester 427 as well as the RWS 28. My Winnie needed a much needed overhaul. I had the cylinder honed, and switched the leather seal to the 25mm vortek seal (conversion kit) and a new maccari Merlin xl spring. She became a solid 8ft lb rifle. The RWS 28 was in 177cal but that was almost brand new and shot 8ft lbs factory stock.
