Title: gray squirrels with DAR .22 (scope cam)
Post by: nervoustrigger on February 09, 2020, 08:07:28 PM
Hey guys, well the .22 cal DAR continues to impress me.  Seldom do I have targets out past 60 yards or so, and the DAR has taken all the challenge out of that sort of thing.  The other day I recorded a quick clip just shooting reactive targets in the back yard:

Then yesterday I was checking the permission down the street and spotted a couple of gray squirrels.  I ran back to grab the DAR and collected them up as soon as I managed to get my breathing under control:

As this season draws to a close, a couple more for the pot!

Great shooting! Sorry for the newb question but is that a GoPro mount and where do I get one? I did a quick search for something like that a while back and the options were very pricey.

Sorry, it's been an hour since I uploaded the video and it is still showing as processing.

James, thanks, it's a pre-production gen 2.

Luis, thank you sir!

Rob, Carl, the scope cam is I made one with an inexpensive "action camera", an Eken model H9R.  It is sold under a variety of names but for example the OEM model is on Amazon for $55 at this time.

I replaced the OEM lens with a 23 degree version off ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/12mm-F1-8-Boarb-lens-1-3-Monofocal-23-Degrees-M12-IR-Cut-Filter-for-FPV-/273425483169 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/12mm-F1-8-Boarb-lens-1-3-Monofocal-23-Degrees-M12-IR-Cut-Filter-for-FPV-/273425483169)

And I used one of the 90 degree prisms so I can hold the rifle and look through the scope's ocular in the conventional manner, Amazon item B00KF18GDW for about $35.

The mount is shop-made with PVC fittings.  It took a little ingeniuity and more time than I care to admit but I'm happy with the results.

The finished widget can be seen on this QB project:

Thanks for the info, Jason. That's a project I may have to take on. Also, that video makes me want a modded QB!

Some 4 hours later the video is still showing "processing" so I decided it's in indefinite Youtube purgatory on the third terrace.

Indeed, I reuploaded it and it was done in 3 minutes.  Sorry for the tease.

Love them DARs. Jason have you heard anything about when the gen 2s will be available to buy or at least how I can get a 25 mag? Any info would ease the waiting pains.

I think they’re trying to hit the $300 value segment but they’re making a bunch of improvements before putting it back on the market so I’m thinking they may go up.

Sorry, I wish I had some information about the release but all I know is what’s in the “DAR recall” thread in the Darkside hate.
