Title: Jan. 26th Hunt at the state land: First blood for the M11MK2
Post by: Wayne52 on January 26, 2020, 06:33:50 PM
It's the third time I've been in the woods with this gun and today is the first time I seen a squirrel, it had an ear of corn that it was taking somewhere when I shot it.  I shot it through the upper right shoulder and it exited out the left upper shoulder in about the same spot.  This gun is very smooth as far as the bolt action and the trigger is perfect for hunting.  I've got it turned up so it's shooting the 34.5 grain "Magnum Hunter" at about 900fps.  I think I'm REALLY going to get use to shooting this gun, it still needs breaking in but right now there's no accuracy problems whatsoever.

The M11MK2 is regulated and seems to be doing a fantastic job of it.  I did some chrony strings of it before I had it in the woods, it's a fantastic hunter for sure.

Thanks Randall, Luis and Dave !!!   Randall I figured the gun would be plenty powerful considering it's a direct upgrade from the original M10.  Being it's regulated it isn't as powerful as it could be but doing 60+fpe it's plenty powerful enough to take out medium size small game at a distance.  I'm thinking finally I've got something that's really worthy of taking out a youte at 50 yards if I want to hunt them.  I have my eyes on another mold from NOE which is a slug mold that I'll more than likely be ordering in the near future.

Nice Wayne! I had to look back over your posts for the story on your M11 (I've haven't been on the forum much this last month or so--a lot of things going on around here!). Very nice rifle; for a little bit there I had to resist an urge to pick one up. One shop in Canada has them marked down to about $270 US.

Thanks for the great replies everyone !!!  The squirrel was a big female with a heck of a nice coat to boot.  I'm really happy with the M11 so far, I'll be shooting it at the tune that I have on it right now, after about a thousand rounds through it I'll take it apart and give it a good inspection.  I'm thinking that I definitely got a good one.  The only complaint's that I've seen about the guns coming from Wes is one guy had to replace the fill port o ring which is a breeze in my opinion.  These guns really are built well for being a Chinese gun but I do think highly of the SPA products.  The bolt action on this gun is by far the smoothest I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing and the magazines seem to work really nice.  The mags can be a little finicky to fill but I've pretty much got it down pat now and I know it's going to perform well in the woods.

Nice takedown on that big ole nutter, Wayne!

Are you planning to hush that gun at all? I imagine it must have a healthy report.

Thanks Dinh !!!  I hopefully will be getting an LDC for it soon because it's very loud.

Well done, Wayne.  As I was reading through you first post, I was thinking that your rifle must be very powerful to go all the way through that big Fox Squirrel.  My little Stormrider .22 shoots nice.  But the Gray Squirrel I shot yesterday was hit in the right shoulder and both rib cages.  The pellet stopped up against the skin on the left side.  The pellet looked a little like your avatar.
Again, well done.

Nicely done Wayne. Hoping to get out with mine this weekend. I don't have any Fox Squirrels here but a &^^& load of reds and a few greys. So far the oring I replaced is holding up.  ;D

Thanks Mike !!! The slug in my avatar is a 27.5 grain HP BBT and they expand really good out of my M16 but that's doing 38fpe (820fps) whereas my M11 is doing 62fpe (900fps) with the cast diablo (meplat) 34.5g pellet and they don't expand nearly like a hollow point slug does, I am planning to buy a mold for this gun that's a hollow point slug but I'm going to wait til I get it broke in good.  I think the slug will also work good in my DAR25 as well but the DAR don't have near the power the M11 does.  I can get my DAR up to about 60fpe but I only get about 10 regulated shots with it.
