Title: 1300kt - Flat Top Valve and Piston - what does it add?
Post by: Marc on January 04, 2020, 04:08:29 PM
Looking at a 1300kt with an 18" or 24" barrel in .22 cal.  What will a flat top valve and piston do?  I'm not looking to pump more than 8-10 pumps.

Thanks!

makes the gun more efficient , so u might need to pump less times for a given velocity.. Headspace is the enemy

Any idea what kind of velocity you'd see from a set up like this?

I have a 1300KT, 18-inch .22 cal.

Stock:  500fps @ 10 pumps (14.3 grain)
With FTP/Valve:  500fps @ 7 pumps, 580fps @ 10 pumps.

That's pretty good power - looks like more than a stock R7?

How is accuracy at 20-25 yards?

The accuracy at 20-25 yards is... better than me.  ;)

The best I did with it was a 1.5-inch group rested at 45 yards with a $20 4x32 scope and 15 pumps per shot.  If I could have seen the target better and had a thinner reticle, I probably could have done better.

Thin reticles do help a lot with accuracy.

My 1377 with a 14" LW can do 1 hole at 25y with 5 shots.

No mods done to the power as I only do 7 pumps for the aforesaid distance.

Mine likes JSB/AA pellets in 10g best.

Can the Crosman barrels do that good?  I really want a .22 cal. and an 18" length.

Have good luck with .177 Crosman barrels.

My most accurate is the 24".

That one can do fantastic groups at 38y..

Here is a comparison between stock and an FTP....

My new gun certainly doesn’t.  I got one from the custom shop for Christmas.  It’s got the long steel breech, 14” Crosman barrel, and carbine stock.  Scoped, the best I’ve managed is around a 1/2” 5 shot group at 20 yards, but most groups are a bit bigger than that.  That’s after multiple barrel cleanings and trying a lot of pellets.

Others I’m sure have had better luck.
