Lately I have been eyeing the Crosman 2260 rifle, mainly because I have a feeling that like the wood stocked 39x rifles, it probably won't be easily obtainable much longer. Personally I am extremely loath to buy a gun without a wooden stock, my 1322 carbine being the only exception in my collection. It's already getting hard to find a 2260 for sale. Crosman has them on their website on a made on demand basis, with a 3 to 6 week wait, for $125.

Or there's the limited edition "Sheridan" 2260MB from Airgun Depot or Pyramyd Air, for $149 from either place but Pyramyd is not currently in stock. It has a steel breech, so it's a bargain over the standard one from Crosman if you were going to put a steel breech on anyway.

I really don't need one since I already have a QB78, which is a copy of the original Crosman 160 that the 2260 replaced. Just one of those things where I wish I had one in my collection and they're only going to get rarer and more expensive. Although, I have heard that they have an edge over the QB78 in that they get similar performance from a single co2 cartridge, while the QB uses 2.
On a related note, I wish they still made them with the old style stock.

That looks a whole lot nicer to me. I find it kind of annoying that air rifle stocks, especially the wooden ones, are made so much more bulbous and chunky than they need to be nowadays. I know a big reason for the trend towards plastic stocks is that wood is getting more and more expensive, but you'd think they could try using less of it by making slimmer and prettier stocks. Half of the appeal of buying one of the new ones is that I'd like to "fix" the stock by taking the bulge off the forearm, and probably thinning it down in other places while I'm at it. :P
It will probably be a few months at least before I add up enough disposable funds to justify another air gun purchase, but I would like to have one of these if they last long enough. Anyway, what is the general consensus on these guns? I've seen some complaints about reliability, not firing or dumping the whole co2 cartridge. I've never had a problem with my first production year 2240 which should be mechanically the same, but are the new guns as good as the old ones?

I saww that and am thinking really hard about getting one on a 10% off day. It's the same valve in all of their CO2 guns, so reliability is not an issue. I, also would like to see them trim it down a bit. I need it like a hole in my head, but still want one. ???

Hey I want one too Jim. I have wanted one for years. Those CO2 guns are a joy to shoot. I searched Crosmans website since before black Friday- - - guess what never went on sale, 2260 and Challenger!
I already have 4 rifles, I guess that something needs to go into members classified gate.

I would defiantly get the "Sheridan" 2260MB from Airgun Depot or Pyramyd Air.
I would venture to say the #1 performance mod to ANY 22XX is a metal breech and that is what the "MB" stands for.
Now, that said... if you like the sleek look of the older 2260, but like the extended shot count of a 2 cart option of the QB78... why not pick up an original?
The Crosman 160 is a fantastic CO2 rifle. There is a darn good reason they were cloned. ;)
The 3rd variant (top) is what they cloned, but the 1st and 2nd variants (bottom) are just as nice IMHO.
All are easy to reseal if needed.
And the 3rd variant trigger is so amazing I do not understand why they ever quite producing it.

I just sent out payment for Sheridan 2260 from the member classified ads this morning. Glad to hear you guys speak so highly of it. If never messed with co2 guns and figured with the price it would be a good buy. Sounds like I figured right and made a sound investment. I also purchased a Mrod target master cp1 along with it. Plan on using the cp1 as a frogging gun from my kayak.

My brother in law has a significant ground squirrel problem, (like that’s really a problem for an air gunner...), and he likes shooting my Disco. He is lazy however and doesn’t want to pump, floor pump, or buy a tank for a pcp. ::) I’m thinking the 2260 would be a good tool for him, especially since the squirrels are only out and about in the summer.

Multiple times I've thought about getting a 2260mb, but I just have this thing about seeing the Sheridan name being used on a .22cal Co2 gun.
Oh and I definitely agree about the old stock, the new one is ugly as sin and the grip is extremely fat and rectangular.
Used a 2260 stock for a project and the grip was terrible luckily it's only wood and can be reshaped, but who wants to refinish the stock on a brand new gun.
I finally decided what I really needed was a Crosman 180.

All a matter of choice & feel. Me. I like the feel on the 2260/Discovery stock. For looks I prefer a rounded end on the for stock Since I like to refinish them in a lighter color, sorta blonde, sanding & refinishing is just part of "making it mine."
The 2260 with a extended probe, BNA Boss valve, ported transfer port & barrel & steel breech is a heavy hitter & a light holding shooter.
Just a joy to shoot on any afternoon. ;D

I like the old 160 stocks which have a lot of figure modified to fit the 2260. I ordered several from Numrich Gun Parts for $20 each. You have to rework the trigger area for the 2260 unit by making a small filler at the rear and reshaping the opening. They are a bit rough but not hard to strip, sand and refinish. The stock mount hole is in the right location, but needs to be filled with a dowel and drilled in the same spot to fit the 2260 stock mount screw. This one has a 20" barrel, TKO, Boss valve, Discovery power adjuster, ice maker tube transfer port, T/C adjustable rear sight and RJ Machine breech. On warm summer day it hits about 670 FPS with 14.3g pellets. I like the retro look with this stock. It comes with sling swivels installed which you can leave or remove and plug the hole if you so choose. (http://)

I bet the barrel diameter is the same as a 2400KT, 760, 1377 and 1322, which means a TKO muzzle brake will fit. One of those will make a 2360 a super stealth rifle.

for my build based on a 2260 parts, I used the stock from an old 392P I had without the pump handle.
Had to "mill out" for the trigger with a dremel, but the screw hole lined right up.
