Title: HW97K muzzle brake
Post by: MartyMcFly on December 11, 2019, 08:30:06 AM
Has anyone tried/seen the Race muzzle brake for the HW97? Krale’s site claims that it reduces noise, but I have not been able to find any independent reviews on this product, except a mention on some UK site that it was produced by Venom. Nor have I found other sellers with a similar product.

https://www.krale.shop/en/race-muzzle-brake-weihrauch-hw97.html (https://www.krale.shop/en/race-muzzle-brake-weihrauch-hw97.html)

Seems too slim from the pictures to contain adequate baffles for noise reduction. Any opinions?

M-

Agree that it seems to thin.  I know Krale has stopped shipping LDC's to the USA.  They do not have the same warning on this item.  Sure is expensive though...
I have found that the noise that springer make is very dependent on location.  Sure is expensive though...

Buy it and then report back the results. ;)

Agree it’s expensive - as much as a new entry level rifle  Plus out of stock at the moment.

Its a "muzzle brake" not a moderator meaning it is intended to divert the air blast upward away from the rear of the pellet thru the ports on the top side of it. It will not decrease the report at all as it has no baffling inside to do so. It is pricey for sure. Not sure if it even will really help accuracy by diverting airflow behind pellet either, its more of an aesthetic item than functional IMO.

Krale won't ship moderators to the USA anyway. Looks like too much trouble for any practical gains. My 97 with the factory muzzle device is the quietest report of any springer I have. I can't see how much it can be improved. Most noise is from the action itself. Besides the whole V-Mach line is well made but still terribly over priced.

Mike hit the nail on the head! that's not for reducing noise! :o

A 40% reduction is quit a bit for an untuned gun! :o most of my air guns the pellet impact @23yds is louder then the gun, using a duct seal trap! :P

He is shooting a 5.25 fpe gun.  Our guns are 2 to 3 times more powerful.
So this video proves what exactly? ??? :-\

That moderators work! ;) every AG I have has a can and that reduce noise, to almost to nothing! ::)

I agree!  They also have tightened my groups.  He is shooting a 5.25 fpe springer.  What FPE are your guns?
At 51/4 the major noise is comming from the rifle's action, not muzzle blast.  Not sure the same is true at 13-18FPE! :o

The muzzle blast from my hw95 was drowning out the mechanical noise when fired.  Fitted with an LDC (from Rocker1) I only hear the spring and piston slamming forward.  Muzzle blast is now less than the mechanical noise.

Thanks for all the input - I’ve been looking for something to add to my HW97k while not increasing its length. Currently most of my rifles produce around 100 decibels in an enclosed space, so I’ve been on a search to reduce the noise, while not sacrificing much power and so far it looks like the only way to reach my goals is to detune it.

Anyways, if the Race muzzle brake had any noise dampening abilities I’m sure someone on here would have tried it already. Too bad DonnyFL doesn’t make something to replace the stock muzzle on the HW97Ks.

I thought this guy did a good scientific job in front of the viewer, unlike other vids that waste time with prattle.  He has the Decibal machine and whether that was 5ft/lbs or 14ft/lbs the point was the PEAK of the entire noise is LOUD because of the air out the muzzle.

To reduce the noise (blast) down to the ability to hear only the mechanism is a GREAT reduction of SOUND heard by ALL.  The mechanism can only really be heard by the right or left ear and head of the shooter and NO ONE else!

The sound mech of my HW97K-T .20 by itself sounds like a powerful SLING SHOT and NOT a rifle!

Well my .20cal HW97k with the HW moderator is very quiet compared with out the can! My power plant has been tune up with the OEM parts and for the power it produces, my rifle shoot the 11.42 FTT's @790fps ;D

I have a factory 97 mod from aoa. It makes a very noticeable difference in 17 and 22.

Tinbum sells a baffle kit that fits inside the OEM HW97 brake.

I tried that kit and it made almost no difference. They did ship quick to the US. Honestly though just try the factory mod from aoa. It doesn't add too much length and makes a real difference. Heck it's cheap too.

The item in the video and what's in the link are two very different items. Besides with all the wind noise and other background noise in the video I heard no real difference between with or without the moderator.

Motorhead/ Scott makes baffles for the HW97 to fit the existing one.

Was not able to see in action though because my friend disassembled his gun and was waiting for an aftermarket spring.

Did not see what it looked like either as it was already locked with the front cap covering it.

I was not implying that they are the same product, thus the “And something else”. But you are right I was not able to perceive a difference either.

When you say factory mod from AoA, do you mean the $99 screw on mod that they offer as an option with a new 97? I don’t see it being sold separately on their site. Thanks for sharing your impression of the kit.
