Title: P-rod p-roblems ?
Post by: Mudbugmitch on December 04, 2019, 03:06:55 PM
Hello folks. It seems as though my P-rod is acting up on me. It seems as though the valve isn’t opening as normal. I fill to 3K and it takes about 10 shots (2600 psi) before it opens up and starts shooting right. I haven’t messed with anything.

Sounds like the hammer spring might have backed off or spring took a set.

Sounds as if your hammer spring adjustment has possibly backed out. Have you run it across the chronograph?

It does sound like valve lock.    Is it a new gun?    I would think Crosman test firing would have seen this.    How much air in the gun when receive.    As mentioned, try turning in the hammer spring as a first check.

A while back I read on the AirGunDepot's marauder pistol advertisement a note stating that pressuring to 3000 psi is not recommended.  The max pressure now recommended by Crosman is 2900psi due to valve lockup issues.  Check it out.  The note is still there.

Ummm....
Prods are to be filled to a MAX of 2900 psi UNLESS modified.
Appears this is stock, (Mitch said he hadn't messed with anything) and should not - as such - be filled to 3000 psi to avoid valve lockup ...

From a note in AGD listing (coming from manual for Prod):NOTE: ONLY FILL TANK UP TO 2900 PSI! Crosman has informed us that if the tank is filled right up to 3000 PSI then reported, this will lower velocities. Please fill to 2900 psi only.  Going to 3000 will cause a bit of valve lock and low velocities will be the result.  The manual states 2900 psi as the Recommended fill pressure (section 11).  Thank you!

A stock P-Rod typically likes to be filled to 2800 PSI and will give a good 25 shots from the lower fill point, with stock settings.

Thanks guys, I left a few things out. This is an older gun and has gone through many mods and upgrades. It has a JS SS valve, I regularly fill to 3000psi, I shoot this a lot. I usually get about 24 great shots down to about 1500 psi. It just stopped performing normally.

I set this when I first got it and have never had a problem before.

1st   I will try a lower fill pressure first.
2nd  I will tighten the hammer ever so slightly and see what happens.

As always, when in doubt, ask...

As other have said adjust the hammer spring or the striker.  If the gun was degassed the striker can move.
