I just pulled my leaking Marauder apart and found some nasty rust pitting in the air tube. I’m assuming that I’m pumping moisture with my Benjamin pump, especially since it’s 4 or 5 years old now and has never been rebuilt. I just ordered some RC shock oil based on some old threads I’ve read, but would like to get going on rebuilding my pump. I have a bottle of RWS chamber oil in the garage. Is this stuff silicone oil and would it be ok to use on the pump rebuild?
Thanks!

Boy this isn’t good! I knew I was in trouble when I pulled the lower check valve out and water dripped out. Lots of corrosion. Even the pin that holds the handle on was so corroded I had to pound the heck out of it with a punch and hammer. Now I can’t get the lower cap thing off the inner tube. Nothing to hold onto on that slick tube. It’s sitting in the garage now with some penetrating oil on it to hopefully free it up. J
I have a feeling this pump is beyond repair. I looked at the variety of Chinese pumps on Amazon. Are any of them any good? Otherwise, any recommendations on a good pump under $200?

i've been using this yosoo/hivbee from walmart that i got to use with my gauntlet about a month ago .
no issues with it in that short time span . WM said 4-5 day delivery time but it took almost 2 weeks .
only $40 and i have nothing to complain about so far :)
sorry to hear about your corrosion problems :(

Hey Jeff,
Glad that pump is working well. I looked at it online but it shows out of stock.
I managed to get the stuck cap off the inner tube of my Benji pump so I’m going to keep playing with it and see if I can clean it up enough to function. I’m finding pitting in places that may not be fixable, but I’ll try. I sure think one of the Chinese pumps would sure be a handy backup though...

they have several others that are probably basically all the same relabeled hivbee brand .
BTW .... you can do returns in store of things bought on walmart.com , even stuff from their 3rd party sellers . that's why i got mine there .

I can’t remember where I read it, but when I rebuilt my Benjamin pump this last time I only used synthetic oil. I couldn’t be happier! The pump has never worked so good Ever.
Good luck with yours!

I spent a couple more hours on my pump today. Man the corrosion, pitting and rust are awful. I’m doing the best I can with jewelers files, emery cloth, solvents, rags, etc., but I’m thinking it may be beyond hope. From all I read I assumed you didn’t have to rebuild a pump until it failed, and mine has been going strong for 4-5 years, but it’s a mess, and has certainly been pumping moisture into my guns, which I am now paying for. Lesson learned. Rebuild your pump and probably guns at least once a year!

Geez I just watched a youtube video on rebuilding one of the Chinese pumps. All the instructions were in Chinese, which of course didn’t help. What amazed me was that when the guy got the pump apart he poured out about a cup of what looked like water? Then when he got the pump cleaned up he poured it back in???
Are you kidding me?

That is the water cooled pump, not sure if they are freeze proof. I ordered one in the middle of winter and when I opened the box there was strange clear liquid in the plastic case that it came with.
I rebuilt it right away and left the "coolant" out, rather not have a oring fail and fill a gun with that stuff ::)

OK I’ve spent way too long trying to rebuild the poor corroded Benji and have decided to go for a Chinese pump. Does anyone know which of the current Amazon offerings are NOT water cooled? I’m leaning towards the Orange A at $53 mainly because it’s eligible for Amazon prime and also free returns. Just wish I could install a desiccant filter though...
