Title: Couple of grays with the Liberty
Post by: superchikn on November 29, 2019, 08:04:57 PM
Needed two more to add to the two I have so i can try the squirrel gravy recipe over rice.
One at 55 yds was a head shot.  The other at 40 is yds was a neck shot and needed to be finished off.
Both were shot this afternoon with Liberty 22 shooting Baracuda match 21s.
Both shots were rested.
Last week it took me quite a while to dress two squirrels.  I think i was done these two in less than 10 minutes, cleaned up and in the freezer.

Good shooting, Ray! I knew it wouldn't be long before you started racking them up.

Thanks all!

They were both actually the same size, and about the same size as the two I got last weekend.  Quite healthy and well fed!  The one closer to the gun was soaking wet as it had fallen in a creek.

Thanks Tom-  I really like this rifle.  It makes it easy to be successful hunting.  Gotta start doing this with my Summit Ranger.

Thanks Geo - This thing is so quiet missed shots do not scare the critters.  That is a good thing, as i had been shooting slugs yesterday  and my first two shots today were off which i am going to blame on switching ammo without the barrel "leading in".

Sweet 55 yard shot!   I am still working on that.   55 yards is my extreme pesting distance, but I don't get a lot of actual pest shots out that far.

I am practicing though...  and getting better!

Nice shooting!

Excellent shooting! Quick way to skin a squirrel is make a cut thru the skin @ mid back , insert fingers & pull both directions at once. Lickity Split... Done.

Last week... well i wont tell you how i did it last week.  I watched a couple videos after that mess an settled on cutting the skin under the tail, cutting the tail loose, stepping on the tail and pulling up by the hind quarters.  This worked extremely well.
I also saw the one you described and it looks to be an excellent method as well.

I also went back and put a much better edge on my knife.  These guys have some tough hides.  Bunnies they are not!

Thanks Buddy.
Yes the Barracudas are treating me well.  They are doing 1 1/2" at 100 yds with this gun.

The two I got last week were both at 53-55 yds. Head shots DRT.  Barracudas.
Barracudas dropped a good size groundhog for me at 68 yds  early summer.  hit between the eye and the ear, she dropped down and never moved more than a foot away.

Ray, that is the way to prepare for a squirrel gravy.  That is one serious looking rifle/scope combination too.  Nice!

Thanks for the compliments and comments guys!
Tom - to you and others of your caliber who regularly woods walk with a break barrel and take squirrels, my shooting a pcp rested can not hold a candle to your skills.
I'm new to airgun hunting, though I have been pesting for a while.
I can shoot my D34 and Summit Ranger quite well and hope to start trying my hand in the field with them in the near future.

Ray..I was out today but not much was moving around and I came home empty handed.
It was around +5F and very windy.  I  covered around 6 miles in the rough backcountry and walked home in the dark.

I can't wait to see what you do with your Summit Ranger this year !

I am eagerly staying tuned to your hunting posts ..Ray !

Best Wishes - Tom

I had just forwarded this pic to a buddy and was looking at it zoomed in.  I saw the power wheel was on Low!!!  I thought, no way did I get them at that distance on low.
Then I remembered the up close finishing shot.  I did that on low.
I guess I am not losing my mind!  Yet!!!
