Just came across this thread. Very, very tempted.

There are a couple of really good deals at Crosman I'd like to buy, but I'm in the NO-SHIP forbidden zone. Frustrating since i could DRIVE there in about 20 minutes and just pick up my order! Last time I asked they would not allow in-person pick-ups. Doh!

Hi Micheal
I can feel your frustration, this year Crosman has the best sale IMO, their barrels is better than Gamo , just the trigger that is bad but it is an easy fix , i got the trail np2 177 for $76 from Walmart while back , and i just replace the trigger spring with a softer one and now my trigger is about 1 lb , and shooting less than dime size at 20 yards .

Very tempted on the Benjamin Trail NP2 hardwood for less than $100.00. and free shipping......... Any thoughts out there?

I already have 2 in synthetics, so I can't really justify a third one. Both of mine, in .177 and .22, are very accurate and hard hitting. The triggers are heavy but predictable, but can be improved with some elbow grease.
At this price and free shipping, it is a fantastic bargain!

Crosman says it’s 26 FP of energy. Reading some reviews, they say 21 - 22. Have you chronied it?

Nope. I just simply go by the report that's registered when I hit my steel targets. I've taken plenty of squirrels and hares with even the .177. No lack in lethal power.

Between your .22 and .177 which is more accurate. I’m think about grabbing the TRAIL NP ELITE STEALTH WOOD .177

Hard to say, in regards to caliber alone. I would say my .177, but maybe only because the trigger is a bit lighter. I don't mess with the internals of my guns much, I just learn to adapt to the gun for the most part. So, both my triggers are bone stock. I've read plenty of posts where people polish and modify these Benjamin triggers to make them considerably better.
When I do my part, my .177 Trail can ding the 3" steel plate 55yd away or splat paintballs at 30yd, shooting off the knees.

I am thinking about the wood trail np2 .22 cal , already owned the 177 , was struggled to get the accuracy due to the stock trigger, always pull the gun off the target, replaced the little spring with a softer 1 and now it shoots consistently less than a dime at 20 yards, but the 177 is SBD model with a big square LDC in the front hard to grab it , the trail np2 wood stock has a smooth shroud that make cocking a little easier. The price is very attractive!

I actually prefer that much larger, squarish SBD LDC, in regards to cocking. I find it less slippery than the smaller round metal shrouds.

Yea the larger looks like it may be quieter too.

I can't verify this since my .177 is SBD and the .22 is the round shroud. However, I do find both considerably toned down, from a non moderated break barrel rifle.

There sure are some good deals out there these days, if I was in the market for a break barrel I'd probably pick up on a deal like this.
-
I put a very light spring in my trigger group and now its a hair trigger. You can hit the wall then just a skosh more pressure and its getting sent. I dont really recomend it and i need to put a spring in that's in between the stock and one I have now.
-
These are great accurate rifles. I love mine out to 35 yards. The trigger mods helped me get beyond 20 yard reliability. Mostly the sears were traveling to one side of their pivot pins and binding. Washers on both sides took care of it making for a very light 1st stage pull allowing me to clip 3/4 of a coil off the main sear. You can polish the sear areas without disassembly by wrapping 2000 wet/dry around a nail file. Great deal! If you are on the fence, buy it.
-
Has anyone had this rifle and the Nitro Venom to compare? Is the Benji trail more accurate?
-
Sigh, just ordered the .177 version. Gotta stop this.

I have a slightly too light spring in one of my NP2 trigger packs, and 99 out of 100 times it works great and is very good two stage trigger, but a small percentage of the time the sear doesn't latch on cocking. This isn't a problem for me because I'm in the habit of always holding springer barrels and I can feel it isn't latched and recock it, but if someone were to assume it's cocked and let go of the barrel, it would slam shut and things would bend or beak.
So, be careful!
I need to put a heavier spring in it one of these days so I can share the gun with others.

I make certain before letting go of the barrel as I had it happen once and was lucky my hand was still on it.

I've ruined the .22 Trail's barrel this way. Lesson learned. Don't become complacent, hold that barrel securely until it has completely clicked shut.

At this price point, i had to pull the trigger and get one....
-
Received my .177, boy is it slippery! Cleaned the barrel, took a quick shot with a Crosman competition wadcutter (7.4 gr), it is pretty quiet in my garage.
Think I will try some spray plastidip on the suppressor and the forearm.
It has a front sight, and the barrel is tapped (I assume, it is bored) for the rear sight. I will look into ordering the rear sight. Guessing shipping will be as much as the sight.

why not have a friend order for you in aarea where shipping is allowed then send to you and your good with only two knowing of the deal?Just a thought.
