Title: Question for Nova Liberty owners
Post by: tracker1955 on November 23, 2019, 09:51:45 PM
Well it finally happened, figured it would with so many of you posting about air leaking past the poppet stem seal, my Liberty has developed a slow leak. I tried sending an email to American Tactical but oddly got no response from them, my rifle will turn one year old just past Black Friday. I wanted to see if they ever got some replacement poppets from the manufacturer, but Just silence from them, kinda disappointed by their lack of response. My question to you all is if someone could turn down and drill a piece of Delrin rod I have into a couple of spare inserts for the can on the poppet stem of my rifle. I'm not expecting it to be done for free and I will supply the rod, I just don't have the lathe to turn it down and drill it myself. I believe I saw a post about the dimensions on this thread or another. I plan on doing the repair myself to remove the poppet and install the new seal, just need someone who can machine it. If someone is able, please IM me with a price and an address and I will send the rod to be machined. Thanks for listening, just wish American Tactical would about getting some parts support.

Lack of parts availability will be what eventually kills the Freedom, Aspen and Liberty, which is sad as they are all really good airguns.

I said the business model of simply replacing defective guns with new ones (under warranty) and reselling the returned guns as "parts guns" was a bad business model long ago.   And now that these guns have been out long enough for more and more people to have problems with them (out of warranty) parts availability is crucial.   And yet, neither ATI nor Seneca seem to be even working on making parts readily available.   And THAT is really sad.

Good luck and I will be following this thread as I do all of the Freedom, Aspen and Liberty threads.

I was considering buying a Liberty, but the parts problem keeps me looking for other alternatives.

PM darkcharisma AKA Duy. He made one for me and it works perfect. The stock poppet gave up with only a few hundred shots. Ground the can back so it wasn't bottoming on the valve and it started leaking again a few hundred round later.

The last I talked to ATI, about a month ago, they had some O-rings, but no poppets.  Even if they had poppets, they would be the same "soft" ones.  I was looking for them, such that I could make up a Delrin one, without tearing the gun down ahead of time.

Tom,

Duy is your best bet, and he will make a complete poppet, and not have to ship back and forth, and mess with final fitting.  BTW, Delrin rod from Amazon is less than shipping back and forth: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0070ZZ7B0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0070ZZ7B0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)   I have one more to make, using my caveman style: https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=162469.msg155810754#msg155810754 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=162469.msg155810754#msg155810754)

I have a piece of Delrin that fits the inside of the metal cap and has the hole drilled to press the poppet on.  I can cut a piece (slightly longer than needed) but you would have to do all the other operations in the link above.  GTA donation only, though.  ;)

If I were to order one of Duy's puppets, will I have any troubles getting it to seal with a hand pump? Or would I need to initially fill with a tank or compressor?

Duy's poppet sealed right up for me.
