I want to buy a good quality Chronograph . I have never had one and am looking for recommendations Thanks Dan
-
I got the Caldwell deluxe kit from Amazon and its work fine. Has tripod, light kit, and wired hookup to tie into your smartphone or laptop.
-
I have had good luck with my Caldwell also.
For the money there hard to beat especially the deluxe model everything you need in one kit.
-
I like the $22 Chinese chronograph from Ali Express for airguns.

I also have a Pro Chrono Pal and a Caldwell Kit for powder burners.
The Caldwell Kit is not as accurate as the other 2.
-
Caldwell deluxe here too. No errors with the light kit. And the app for your is really nice. Shot strings saved right to your phone.

+2 Best quality for the price.

The FX radar thing which attaches to the end of the barrel and talks to your phone's or tablet's app seems quite an interesting development. At about double the cost of a Chrony F1 it offers very good reliability, but apparently short battery life of about ah hour according to one reviewer. That seems an obvious trade-off, considering its using some sort of radar and Bluetooth at the same time.

I've been using a Shooting Chrony F1 for about 8 years. Initially it gave a lot of errors, but after I added multi-LED pucks to the bottom of each light dispersion filter to directly illuminate the sensors that stopped entirely. Reads perfectly every time. If I were to be shopping for a chrony today it'd be between the FX and the Edgun units:

I have never owned a Caldwell, but I do believe I would rather have my ProChrono Digital with light kit instead. The Prochrono Digital is very user friendly and is fast to operate the functions with having dedicated buttons for each function located right in front. It also has optional remote to phone features.

Thanks looks like Caldwell deluxe kit is well thought of .

nothing but problems from my caldwell, bad battery, poor plug in, overall just poor build design >:(,,,Pro Chrony from Competition has worked great for me ;D

I have a Pro Chrono and never had a problem with it. If I ever get another it will be the FX. It is smaller and easier to set up. You place it under the barrel of the gun and not out in front of it. So you can never shoot and damage it. Iv'e read a lot of reviews on the FX and they seem to be the ones to get.

+1 for the FX Radar Portable Chrono. Read the reviews on GTA and AGN; there are now many posts on user experiences.
Battery life is so-so and I carry extra batteries in my range bag. Get the cradle from Airgunology UK and you’re set. I use it every time I’m at the outdoor range.
$200 but well worth it for me. Basic stats ( low, high, average and ES) but hopefully they will keep improving on functionality with SW upgrades.
All else fails, PM me and we can talk live.

Really doesn’t matter as they all work the same...

I just watched the video on PA about FX Radar Portable Chrono is does look very interesting .
-
Another vote for the Caldwell, the free app is good too.
-
I use the ProChrono Digital only because it was available before the FX. I also set up a magnetospeed and chinese chronos. Wish I had an FX.
Use current tech, go FX, leave the past in the past, value your time.
-
I have a Caldwell I like it very much. I like the phone app.
I also have the $22 Chinese chronograph but I bought it from Amazon for $30.
The caldwell measures in feet per second or meters per second, the Chinese chronograph only measures in meters, so it's not as accurate.
I like both of them.

Pro-Chrono with PC dongle and IR light kit.

I love these posts strings ........ with a VERY generic question ....
Every single person will tell you their preference based on whatever they have. VERY FEW people have, or have had ALL the chronographs out there together.
The Chinese over barrel is about $25, the Caldwell and ProChrono is about $100, Chrony varies between $100-$200 (depending on kit), the FX is about $200, and the LABRadar is about $500+, and so on and so forth ....
How much do you want to spend? What is your use of the chrono? personal knowledge? tuning? competition? Lots of questions ..... and in the end how do you decide? Whichever got most votes?
So I have the Prochrono with the cable AND the bluetooth (and phone app - but when connected to the laptop, you get instant printouts as well) and light kit, and I also have the Chinese over the barrel unit which works fine, but you have to convert from metric to get Imperial (spreadsheet here on the forum)
Following to see what you decide to go with......
Good luck!
Cheers

I've put well over 15,000 shots over my F1 while tuning and experimenting with various airguns, whether PCP or springer. It'll probably outlive me, and with the right lighting it won't give any error messages. But I wouldn't recommend it. Too light-fussy, too bulky and awkward, too easy to shoot (though I've never managed that stunt), and too bare bones in terms of data. I was recommending the FX based on the rather silly review offered by Giles in the video I linked to. He has most types, and he plainly LOVES the ease of use and reliability of the FX. The Edgun model is just about as easy to use, though if you were trying I suppose you could shoot it. And it's simpler, needing no app, no Bluetooth, just shows you a number. Got to like that.

I only use PACT for accurate readings. We clock shots up to 4000 fps powder. Albeit air guns or Belted Magnum cartridges.... Expanding gasses from the mussel can be easily misread and alter the actual velocity of the projectile. Airguns, inparticular, are notoious for this. All manufacturers suggest you have the Windscreen sensors be set at least 6 feet from the mussel to alleviate this problem. If you really want to know what you're actually clocking.....spend the bucks! JMHO dave

I run the V-3 Chrono from Magnetospeed, for the last 3+ yrs
https://magnetospeed.com/products/v3-ballistic-chronograph.
It is a little more expensive than the rest, but, It has features that that work, Day or Night, (With NO additional lights needed),
will fit just about most firearms/air guns, if you have different configuration of the muzzle/bbl, you can easily make,
a slightly different spacer etc.
This chrono will read airguns 17 cal and up, any CF rifle/shotgun, and the longer bbl'd handguns,
thru all types of weather conditions etc.
Comes in a very handy package, with EVERYTHING needed, no extra equipment to lug around,
can install and use while behind the firing line, day or night usable..............
Tia,
Don
