Title: Exchanging the QE for a Neil Clague on the Flashpup
Post by: Chilihead on November 18, 2019, 07:17:31 PM
I was the lucky winner of a Neil Clague LDC last week for Veterans Day. As many of you know, it's fantastic. I don't have numbers, but my hammer, anvil, and stirrups say it's a big improvement. It also looks great on the Pup.

When I went to sight it in (25 yards) my POI was low an inch and a bit left, the groups were loose too. I realized there was significant barrel droop after taking off the QE shroud which tensions the barrel. This is intuitive to most of you, but I'm barely a year into my PCP experience.

I 3D printed a bushing that slides down the barrel and fits snugly into the scope rail support that's mid-barrel. I used flexible filament for it. I don't know the physics, but I felt it would be better than a hard plastic bushing.

It resulted in a big improvement. My POI was almost dead on to when I had the QE system on it and tightened up the groups to my (less than stellar) normal.

Both my flashpups .22 &.25 droop without shroud.
Bonded a carbon fiber tube to the .25 and picked it back up immediately. Tube behaves like your spacer and stiffens the whole barrel. Plus it now has a carbon fiber pattern, fast and furious.  ;)

Yep, have a carbon tube on order to do the same. I actually printed this to get the outside diameter right. I'll have to get the inside diameter done when it arrives.

It's on my list for sometime in 2020,and I like your version.

All I really want is a choice between loud no LDC/Short and a quiet/ LDC/long, but the QE system dosen't allow that.

Thinking I'll trim back the shroud tube...tension it with a screw on "nut" made from the guts of the QE LDC....leaving the smaller tube/barrel band alone....and a screw on/off LDC.

I thought the same thing. I was going to cut the QE shroud a 1/2" long to the back of the LDC. Then screw the LDC down to tension the barrel. It's an option if the carbon fiber sleeve doesn't work.

I like the bushing. I struggled with my pup also. I had similar issues with a sumo and ended up using O rings to take up the space. I know far from ideal but its what I had on hand. I was going to look into the barrel support for the non QE flash series and see if its available.

I have a NC LDC on my high power Flash in .177, and his stuff is definitely among the best out there.  There is no contest when comparing it to some of the other LDCs that are very popular right now.  That isn't a knock on the others, but a big compliment to Neil's stuff.  You will never see a post about Neil's LDC not working as well as something else.  It is usually the other way around!  That bushing looks great to fix that barrel droop!  Simple is almost always better.  The CF sleeve works quite well.  I have that on .177, and will on my .22 Synthetic Flashpup soon as well.  I also added additional set screws on each side of the breech for the barrel on my gun.  That barrel isn't going anywhere :D

Ribbinstone, you really need to check out the Huma moderators if you want some flexibility on length/noise suppression.  They are pretty dang good in that department.  I did a review in the accessories gate a week or two ago.  I've also done a review on a NC LDC, but that was probably a year or two back.

I actually bought a 23mm x 1.0mm tap off ebay for $10 to do this, but never got around to it yet. I was planning on using the QE nutt with one QE cup then cut it and rethread for the LDC adapter, so the actual QE part of the shroud would only be around 1-2'' I think it would work really well.

I tried this, hatsan didn't have the non QE barrel clamp for the flash but they had one for the BT i think, which has a wider barrel, the gap was still upto 1/8'' and uneven so i filled it with silicone caulking and it was pretty good.
