This may have been what they were referencing.

I think that Franklink is asking about Roll Sizing, by sizing between two flat surfaces, and not Pellet Sorting.

I think I know the specific context and I agree with Bob it is sizing a bullet down... Did see it done by an old timer when I was young... if I remember correctly it works pretty well up to a few thousands .002-.003 beyond that it tends to get out of round... it is very similar to knurling a round between two files in how you do it... a bit of an art to get consistent results but can be done...
There is also the method/process of roll sizing straight wall pistol brass called roll sizing.. ;)

another thing that I saw when young that I have not seen discussed here is called bumping... will be giving it a try with some .25 H&N Grizzly... got them to do very well in one of my .25 Mrods that is choked to ~ .249... the other is choked to ~.2495 and does not send the Grizzlys well at all... am hoping to bump them up .0005-.001 or so for that Mrod... My tin of grizzlys Mic at ~.2495...

I used the roll sizing method when testing for the best size fo the noe bullets before ordering the dizing dies from NOE. I used two precision ground steel plated to roll them between. I also use the file method to give a knurled finish on some of them that were undersized. this is done in the same way, simply putting a bullet between two like files and rolling them between them.
The last poc of a 9 round mag @ 80 yards on a 1 inch tarter dot of them after being rolled. It is a lot of work, but can tell you a lot about size may work best for you. Each slug has to be mic'd to find the good ones. Takes a bit if practice and feel for it. :o

Here is a method of bumping a pellet...

I know many will just want plug and play... and it can be done with some slugs with success... but there is value in knowing/testing/figuring out some alternate ways of doing things...
for me it is just fun to try and meet the challenge... sometimes you do very well... some times it is just well enough to get ya dinner at 50 yards etc...
did I mention for me how much, how can I make it work is a big part of the fun.. ;)
