So, excuse the crappy photo, but it was 2 in the morning when I took this photo. It's my understanding that the barrel in the Taipan Veteran has multiple transfer ports drilled in it? I shined my flashlight in my barrel and it appears that my barrel is sitting in between transfer ports? Shouldn't the transfer port be in line vertically with the gun?

I don't own a veteran but looks perfect to me. Beings that the barrel port is drilled at 2 opposing angles it looks right. The design reminds me of the exhaust port used on car engines.
-
Nope that's exactly how there supposed to be. That bridge so to speak in between is so pellets don't fall through. The ports are large on either side to make up for it.

Oh, that's cool. Well, sorry for the ignorant question!

Doesn't hurt to ask! Enjoy that rare gun you got there! The best choice I think you could have gone with and didn't even know it was a choice you could have :D
-
Normal ... And in a .177 the ports are WAY LARGER than the gun requires in that caliber. No mods of any kind are going to be required, it all ready is a fire breathing dragon with a choke collar on !!
Lol,
Scott

Yeah, that is an heirloom-quality piece you got there. It will soon become the metric by which you measure all future airguns you own and shoot. I can't remember reading a post on this or any other forum that used the words "better than my Taipan". There may be some, but not many. I would consider requesting some type of pedigree documentation from the dealer on it, its story. A short and simple write-up on the dealer's letterhead would justify its value now and far into the future when the world has forgotten what a Taipan is. It would serve to increase its merchantability far down the road when your grandkids start trying to determine WHAT it is and how much it is worth. They (nor the world) will have any idea what history or vaunted position that gun has in the Taipan lineage. Definitely a Taipan among Taipans!
Please consider shooting some 30 and 50 yard groups and posting them up! Can't wait to see how it shoots!
-
So correct me if I am wrong but I have a 22 cal mutant and a buddy has a 22 cal veteran and I can see now discernable difference in the two in terms of accuracy or performance whatsoever. Its entirely up to the shooter to do their part IME when using either one of these fine guns. Both have CZ barrels so not sure if the 25 cal is really any different other than caliber and non CZ barrel.
I do not know anyone with a 25 so no first hand experience myself with one.

Do yourself a favor and send it to Scott.

I'm working on those groups for ya!

I contacted Scott and he declined the work! Said it wouldn't be worth my money and that I should just shoot it. Stand up guy!

Honestly there is NOTHING these guns "Really Need" other than some fine tuning of HST and trigger adjusting to personal reference.
Sure you can go into them and tweak some stuff, but IMO the gains weighted against cost really is not worth it for the owner in most cases.
Not really a decline more a save your money for pellets ... the better money spent.

You're right. Sorry, decline was a poor choice of words.

.25 cal is LW barrel, any origin. .22 cal is CZ barrel, but only if the gun is of Ukrainian origin. If yours says Ukraine on the receiver, better hang on to it. And that .177...if that is a CZ barrel, gracious...that gun is unobtanium in value.

I was told mine is a hand-picked LW .177 barrel. It says CZ on the breech where the barrel is screwed in. Are CZ barrels stamped with any markings? IIRC, my breech is marked "Made in the Czech Republic"

It is a fine gun. A Czech Taipan, I am told, has a "Select" LW barrel rather than a CZ barrel, in any caliber. And, possibly, a MUCH nicer stock. Scott is right, adjust the trigger and go have fun. I shot some sub MOA groups with mine about this time last year and like a fool I went fiddling with it and I degraded the performance. I luckily reversed that according to the documentation I kept and got it back to pretty much how it came from the factory...other than the trigger settings. Those factory guys knew a lot more about its optimal performance than I did. Taipan lesson learned.
Shoot some 30 and 50 groups now and save them, then shoot some more after about 750 pellets through it. I'd like to see both groups!
I've got the Stihl Wood Boss in the foyer without the chain on it. The perfect finishing touch to my wife's Halloween porch decorating. Every time I get a knock on the door I crank it up and rev it a few times, then answer the door. Don't know if these kids will come back next year...

I am waiting on a .177 Patchworm, so I can clean the barrel before I shoot for groups. My first observation is two fold. 1) I can clean my .177 Hatsan Flash with my regular Patchworm and a 7/8" patch, and that's supposedly a choked barrel. I cannot get a patch down my Taipan barrel. It appears to have a much tighter barrel, especially at the crown. 2) Accuracy is not good at this point, sad to say. With both 8.44 and 10.34 JSB, it wants to group around 1/4" at 33 yards, but every other shot is a flier. In a ten shot group, five will go basically in one tiny hole with two others grouped separately, and 3 random fliers. I was able to get one patch through the barrel and it came out nasty. I'm really hoping that it will shoot good after a clean.

Did it come with a warranty?

Did it come with a warranty?
I would assume so. I'll check with the UTAG guys tomorrow. I hope I don't have to be the one and only person who needs to warranty a Taipan as I don't know how that would go with a rare .177. I don't think the, seemingly, extra tight bore is a problem, as long as it doesn't affect accuracy. I don't think it's out of spec as I had to back out the HS three full turns to get the 10.34 JSB under 900 fps. So I don't think there's a lot of extra friction from a tight bore.

If barrels dirty, start there.
Also check the LDC for alignment by shining a bore light at the breech while looking down bore from the muzzle. Make sure the bore & lights refraction passes from barrel threw LDC being centered.
If these issues are too much for your ability and wish to have these issues looked at .... Well, guessing we may have destiny to get that gun looked at & tweaked on some.

Dude, cut the patch smaller until it goes down the barrel, clean it and get on with it. Put 500-1000 pellets through it, then get back with this community.

Ah, @$%^. I'm an idiot, aren't I? Will update today.

I'm fairly confident in my abilities, so I'll hop to it. But if destiny is destiny.

This thread at least answered the barrel manufacturer question for me. My Taipan veteran .22 arrived from Utah Airguns in late September. They shipped it as soon as they got them in. I heard a rumor from another place that used to sell them that Taipan could no longer get CZ barrels. They said that Taipan is a small fish compared to CZ's other vendors. I got my rifle and am real happy. The rifles only limitation is me and my poor eyesight. The range I shoot at has 20 minute cycles. After firing a dozen shots at the bullseye, I got bored and decided to start shooting at the small numbers on the target. I clipped every one of them. The range master was looking over my shoulder and asked what I was doing. When I told him he was amazed that air rifles could be that accurate. I really don't care what manufacturer the barrel is from. This rifle is a keeper.
