Title: The WoD helps me get chipper 41!

It's been a week since my last chipper, but today we solved that problem...

I briefly saw a chipper out there yesterday on the side of the Woodpile of Death (WoD), but he fled after seeing me at the edge the patio about 25 yards away.

I again walked outside today and saw a chipper in silhouette out there, but this time he stayed put while I doubled back to fetch the R10. I've been experimenting with shooting with the scope at 16x, so I cranked it up and gave it almost 1 mildot hold over, taking Mr. Chipper through the head, broadside, at 28 yards (back stoop to WoD). The inset is the entrance wound on the side of his head. No, he doesn't have any food in that cheek--that's a huge blood clot. This big guy had a gash of sorts on the right side of his nose, but I don't think I caused that one  ::). He is number 41 for the year.

I find I'm liking the 16x for shots that give me that luxury--makes it a little easier to get my aim point. As for WoD, I was beginning to wonder about it...seemed like I wasn't spotting any chippers on it. Then again, I had torn it apart a month or so ago to look for a body. On restacking it, I left a "low spot" in the middle, perhaps thus making it unattractive or giving them a place to be out but not be visible. So, the other day I stacked the logs again, and here's the pay back. This guy was on the highest point, left side of this picture, which is taken from behind the WoD. Sorry about the quality--bright sunlight makes a tough picture of this sort of thing.

David, nice shot! That’s a whole lotta chippers you have sniped this year on your WoD 👍.

Great shot on the chipper !!! I haven't shot a chipper in a while, I've been more after squirrels when I'm out hunting.  Maybe I'll plug one in the morning, it's going to be the first day out in a while.

I also have a wood pile of death.   For some reason, chippers like a wood pile.   I just need to move it into my safe kill zone so I don't have to take the AG outside to shoot them!
