This arrived a couple days or more ago in the midst of me coming back home from the hospital for tias. It was nice to have it and begin getting to know it. All screws in front (2) needed tightening by more than a turn! I was shocked but stopped turning when I felt enough resistance to stop turning more. That done I shot a round and knew immediately I was going to LIKE it. It was almost already zeroed and it took only a few big .25 pellets from the H&N Field Target Trophies to see the proper action downrange at 25 yards with the open sights on the cog front and narrow slit rear installed already. The SLAM was significantly more than my HW95L .25, and the longer barrel made sighting with open sights easier than I thought.
The Chronograph readout shows 10 velocity numbers with these pellets:
649 -- 648
657 -- 655
646 -- 645
652 -- 652
648 -- 648
*with the High being 655fps, the low being 645fps, the mean being 649fps, the standard deviation being 3fps, and the extreme spread being 10fps.
Now I have 3 HW80s in .177, .20, and .25; while three HW95Ls in .177, .22, and .25. The .177 is really an R9 keep in mind but to me they are too close to say one is better or worse.
This HW80 has a RIGHT HAND stock as well as the HW80 in .177 while the .20 is LEFT HANDED. They all work the same, all calibers in these 6 rifles work very well. Having worked with these 6 rifles for a rather long time considering new ones following in different calibers I have some gleanings for you, my audience! ;D
I had approached "accuracy" my way in just off hand holding only for all rifles and all will hit steel at 25 yards, steel that is 1.5" in diameter! You have no idea how many pellets from the .177s went downrange before THOSE calibers were finally settled in to rely on for this! The .20 in the HW80 is a ONE WAY ticket for those interested in being loyal to the .20 of which I am especially after seeing how Hector Medina's Diana 54 .20 caliber shot for me. It truly is another ticket to air rifle shooting. It is by far the longest range performing air rifle I have to date despite my hankering for the .25 in the R1 or HW80.
But the R1 or HW80 really really is the rifleman's rifle if I may proclaim!
Today it is cold and wet and no air shooting happened. However, from yesterday and when I got it getting to know it was as fast as anything. I had bought a Zero Recoil Mount for this .25, but now I am saving it for another air rifle in my cabinet instead of using the mount on the HW80 .25. That's right, I found a pellet rifle that can shoot and do my requirement at 25 yards with aplomb and force!
My Theoben Eliminator clocks at 705fps and my Falcon R-s .25 clocks near 800 fps but neither higher velocity is as accurate at 35 yards over the open sighted long barreled HW80, which tells me my R9 and HW95Ls are a tad short in the barrel length as well in the power plant. They are close but not quite "there" compared to the HW80.
What about the .25 can be added is the ease of loading and shooting larger pellets palpable to the hand and fingers, and if you look at those Standard Deviation results at 3fps you know accuracy is terribly unwieldy in PLACE! ;)

John, glad you're back in form! That TIA = potential serious $!@%... I hear the MAN above fancies an HW in .20 as well... Good company to keep. Be well & KEEP dingin' steel!

John,
I did notice were not posting, glad you are home and healthy.
You probably have more HW rifles than most stores have in-stock.

Thank you for your concerns at my disappearance. In a way I was wondering if this forum was relieved to see less of me!
Well, I did shoot ONE shot today! It was my HW80 .20 Left Hand with the Vortex Viper 30mm tube! I hit the hardest steel to hit, the first one on the left, with the ONE shot and felt good about it. Enough for today! ;D
