Title: any company better at supplying parts for PCP than benjamin ???
Post by: JeffB1961 on October 19, 2019, 12:32:27 PM
first ... i have ZERO experience  with PCP . but i've been interested for a while and the interest seems to be growing ....

5-6 years ago when i was modifying my 13xx i was surprised at how crosman/benjamin supplies pretty much every part for every airgun they make for very reasonable prices . i'm considering trying PCP in early 2020 (very modest budget) and parts availability will be a strong consideration for me because i do like to tinker . i'll be looking to initially invest $400ish MAX in the gun if i go .25 but i'm considering .35 @ $600ish max . wil get a $40 hand pump initially and a PCP compressor down the road .

what are y'alls experience with stock and after-marked parts availability . and the degree of difficulty when tinkering with budget PCPs ?

in .25 i'm interested in the marauder , gauntlet , aspen , puncher breaker and referbed bullboss QE . but mostly the marauder and gauntlet .
in .35 the benji bulldog seems most interesting .

thanks , jeff

I think sticking with Crosman/Benjamin is what you need if you add "need available cheap parts".  You can purchase a New Maurauder for about $350 and a Bulldog for about $600 (midway USA has them now for $608 and free shipping.  You can shoot deer with them.  If you are looking to shoot deer, don't get a Hatsan or Winchester as you will be limited to pellets.  The Bulldog has a magazing but still shoots bullets.

Crosman corporation ( New York State ) ..... winner by a Land Slide !!
On the High end .... Rapid Air Weapons ( Tennessee or Airforce in Texas ) has every part one may need for servicing a phone call away.

thanks for the quick replies . i was thinking crosman would win , but i figured i'd ask to be sure . the gauntlet sure is interesting though ! between it and the marauder (not taking part availability into account) in my uninformed opinion the regulation vs the green mountain barrel seems to be the more interesting difference . still considering the .25 aspen also .

Understand that the general conscientious has been the chinese and turks where a LOT of air guns get made are interested and focused on selling guns, there after the fact support for parts or warranty servicing are sketchy at best.

Daisy is as good as Crosman supplying cheap parts.  However they don't make the guns you want.

Pyramyd Air was super helpful when I requested 0-rings and a trigger recently.  Yes, I know they don't manufacture air rifles.

Very good service for many things at PA including returns.   But do not count on PA for all parts.   For example, they do not have anything for Beeman (SR Industries) Chinese PCP's - Chief, Chief II, Commander, etc.

Crosman is #1 for fast access to parts for their products.

Make sure you do some research on the Maurauder if you are looking for the model with the Green Mountain barrel, I think Crosman stopped using those barrels in the newer models.  I'm not sure if they are in-house barrels now but I think I would still opt for the Maurauder as there have been some issues with the Gauntlet (I don't own one so this is second hand).  However the Aspen is a whole 'nother PCP because it is a hybrid pumper.  Ive got 2 freedoms (same gun) in 22 and I take the one squirrel hunting over my other PCPs.
Once again though, the Maurauder will be sturdier due to less parts, orings, complexity.

I can not imagine ANY customer support better than Crosman's.

Reports are this is a very good rifle regardless of the etching on the side of the receiver (MrodAir, Diana, SPA, Artemis, etc).    Timely, low-cost shipping of parts will not be a feature.

Mrodair don't have any more of the Airmax Dominators, I just checked and it seems to be that the last one finally sold, someone got a deal on that for $389.

Shucks!   Why did they stop making them?   Or should that be...  Why?  Did they stop making them?  ::)

SPA didn't stop making them.  Mrodair is just out of the ones they bought from SPA.

After recently dealing with AirForce I have to say that they were way better than crosman and they knew what they were doing as far as parts went. What I mean by that is that crosman has you look up part numbers and will not do it for you at all if you don’t have the parts numbers available. AF knows their guns and the parts, all you need to do is call and they ship the part free of charge and provide the postage for the return parts if needed even if you don’t know the part number. Installing your own (as long as it’s their’s) part doesn’t void your warranty.

That right there says it all for me. If you’re looking for something that can handle pellets and slugs in .25, check out their line for sure. The only downfall is that they are all single shot.

I will toss into the crosman hat with excellent customer service and parts that are not too expensive. I had taken in on a trade a known bent barrel benjy trail np2. The lady I talked to was very nice and made sure to ask if I needed any other supporting parts which I did and assisted in insuring I was getting the proper parts. Also I will note crosman no longer uses Green Mountain barrels they now have as I assume another supplier that I also assume makes their other barrels. You can also get one with a LW barrel its a scosche more but I am even thinking the .25 Mrod I have has a crappy GM barrel, I could order a drop in LW barrel and not have to pay through the nose, with the only caveat is its a choked barrel.

Yup, follow up is a pain with single shots.
