Title: New Benjamin 392s now rated at 800fps?
Post by: Airwoods on October 17, 2019, 04:13:37 PM
I’ve seen pic of the new synthetic 392s but just noticed it’s now went up from 685 FPS to 800fps.Has something been changed to the valves to up the power?

I read on PA's website where someone mentioned the high FPS was when using lightweight alloy pellets.
They do say something about the gun having the ability to release the pressure if you pump more than 10 times.
So there seems there is no way to "over pump" the new model.
Wish somebody would do a review and test on one so we could get some real info on it.
Thanks
Ray

sure wish they'd put a nice trigger on these rifles and maybe target sights  :(

This gun needs three things IMO:

1. Barrel not be over-sprayed with paint.
2. A good ready to go scope mount built into the receiver.
3. Make it magazine fed instead of having to put a single pellet at a time.

Heavy trigger and overspray need to be addressed yes and I’m fine with it being a single pellet at a time, that’s what It’s roots are.Would it be nice if it did have a magazine that held 10 rounds and got multiple shots with 10 pumps instead of one shot, yes also, but that’s not this gun,I’d just get a Seneca aspen for those needs.Just wondering if they upped the power

Paint overspray can be fixed easy enough, that don't bother me as much as the heavy rough trigger.
And single shot causes you to think more between each shot and concentrate :)
Now if I had to wish for something it would be a good quiet LDC built in from the factory.

Mac-1 has an LDC for Benjis & 'Dans. It has to be epoxied onto the muzzle, which doesn't really appeal to me. But others may like.

It might not be a good idea to shoot alloy through brass barrels because alloy is harder than lead and brass is softer than steel. Before I knew that,  I did test some quality alloy pellets through an older 347 and 392, and they didn't shoot well.
I question the credibility of the customer statement that the gun has a pressure release mechanism.
I agree that it would be nice to see an expert review of the gun.

I say since they're cutting costs by switching to an ugly synthetic stock ( ugly regardless of what it's made of )  they should just leave the factory with a Williams 5dsh.

I used to shoot metal darts out of my 342 when I was a kid.Looked cool when flying out the barrel.

It was very windy, open sights. He later tried it with a scope.
I think that the reason for posting the video was to settle the question of whether the new version is more powerful. it isnt.

So yes same rifle with a new look. What I thought it would be.Later in the video he shot it scoped and at 20 yards in wind with his target moving around ,1/2in group wasn’t bad at all.Who knows, maybe the guy had not experienced with deferent pellets to see what gun prefers.Still not bad.

I see in the video above that he is using a BE1 scope mount. Accuracy seemed so so. Would have liked to have seen him try it out to about 40 yards with a scope.
