Title: New Rat in the Hood!
Post by: Rat Sniper (AKA: PaulT58) on October 13, 2019, 08:55:56 PM
Spotted this little guy on the Critter Cam this evening!  Looks like I have a new Rattus visiting the feed station!  Perfect timing since the new FX Crown Continuum just arrived last week and needs to be christened!

https://youtu.be/FRaEcO-i9jw

I did some preliminary chrony testing on the Continuum to see the performance with the JSB Hades 15.89 gr pellets.  The short barrel set to the .177/.22 TP produced 896.80 fps and 28.38 fpe.  Upping the TP setting to .25/.30 produced 907.40 fps and 29.06 fpe!  Swapping to the long barrel upped the output to 1,071.20 fps and 40.50 fpe!  Accuracy starts to suffer with the lighter pellets at that speed, so I will probably settle on the 29 FPE setting to send this guy to his maker!  More to come...

Paul, congratulations on the new FX Continuum! That’s a very customizable PCP! Woo Hoo! Those rattus are in big trouble! I got a new PCP Friday and can’t wait to christen it with a rattus too! Oh, and..a Continuum last week and a Raptor EZ OD soon....those rattus are HISTORY! LOL! You sure are doing something right 😉👍.

He was back again this morning...

I'll be waiting for him this evening...

Then I check the Trail Cam and see this guy was there a little too early in the morning for me...

I need to entice him to show up later or just after dark when I'm still awake!

It’s a dark and stormy evening this evening and I suspect my newest visitor is of the subspecies Rattus Fairweatherus and doesn’t care much for the current weather.  Can’t say as I blame him and not so sure I’d venture out in the rain if he did show up!  He may have to wait for another, nicer day!!!   8)

one and done! Nice shot!

Another idea: you could keep the long barrel on and load up some heavy metal. Maybe like a 34gr JSB Monster. I imagine that's gonna be one heck of an impact!  ;D ;D

Thanks guys!!!

Yep, Randall, it was the Continuum’s first rat!  Right behind the ear, I suspect it was quick and painless!

I'm not so sure...  Prior to the Hades I was shooting the 18.13 grain JSB's and they would pass right through a rat, same with the 25.39 grain JSB's from the Dreamline.  I don't think a rat has enough mass to slow a domed pellet enough to allow for expansion.  These Hades fragment on impact (or are supposed too) and seem to make a much larger exit wound than a domed pellet.  Even when I shot one with the Sumatra using a 43 grain pellet, the exit wound was the same size as the entry wound.  For rats, I don't think I can do much better than the Hades, well, that is until the .25 Hades are available!  Those should make an even bigger exit hole!  :o

Paul

I am going to get one of my 22 cal. rifles sighted in for Hades pellets.

I will be trying them out on the squirrels in my area soon.
